Best time to go in

I know for alot of people it's common knoledge but I'm writing this for everybody else new to ue. Also I'm interested in other people's experiences about what is the best time/worst time to go inside an abandoned building but in a populated area, in relation to society's rythm (people getting of work, going to work, donut time for police, kids getting out of school, etc.).
For example there is this abandoned mosque, right in the centre of the populated neighbourhood, I've been reminded to visit recentlly and I figured the best time to go in is during raining when all the extremist muslims with the taste for christian blood should be inside having a cup of coco.

I usually just size up each location and decide on a case by case basis.

Sometimes its just walk in any time 24/7 but if theres any security or detection risk at all, Ive had good luck going on Sunday mornings especially when I have to hoof it in for some distance. Less MV traffic almost no pedestrian traffic in urban areas around here.

In Texas Ive found another good time is during Dallas Cowboys football games traffic drops off by 50%

The schedule of employees at an adjacent business that can see in is another consideration, Ive been spotted twice by active "neighbors" resulting in abbreviated or aborted trips

My favorite though is entering a location wee hours before sun up to avoid curious eyes, alway nice to see the sunrise from a forgotten location

It depends for every location. Many factors are to be considered before determining a night or day mission. Here's the main determining factors for me:

Low level of difficulty: daytime, so the pictures turn out good
Medium level of difficulty: enter before sunrise, leave during the day. Or enter during the day, leave at sunset. So you can take pictures in the light, but you're still focusing on not getting caught
High level of difficulty: enter before sunrise. Leave after sunset.

That's just incredibly general, all places should be taken case by case. My preference is to get in while it's light, explore until the sun sets. Then leave when it's dark.

Probably the best plan!
Go in pre-dawn - they'll all be asleep.
Sucks you have to live in a town full of moon-worshippers holmes.

I mostly go during the day due to the light factor at night. Some of the places I go have on-site security, so lights at night are a dead giveaway. It really does just depend on the place. A place in a busy area might be easier at night if less people are around. I just like to explore during the day, makes life easier for me I guess.

Neah, just this region of this country (still they are just a minority) and especially this neighbourhood. Nothing against them as long as they keep to their coco. I wouldn't have payed so much attention to this building if it wasn't for my time to time exploration buddy, an future to be orthodox priest. When I hoped through the window he started begging me to come out because I'm violating the place (or somethin like that). If he was so vexed (when he should have actually told me to vandalise the place and draw "the prophet" all over the place in faeces) what's it to expect from the actual practioners of islam?

Did the institute of UE aprove those results? There are some other factors that need to be considered specific for my area but as there aren't any people from my area no point in writing about them. But it's a really interesting piece of information.

Lol, no - The institute is still examining this!

This statistic was made for Germany, I remember reading these figures in a police magazine, they stated something like this:
"although between 3-4 am most people (94%) are sleeping, most home invasions (81%) take place at plain daylight around 12 o´clock pm, taking advantage of work hours."
This coincides with my experience, weekdays between 12 and 2 am you still run into people coming from bars etc. and around 5 am the first people start getting up and you start running into workers distributing newspapers, etc.

Yeah, I got that from military statistics before as well. I'd also say 1-2 is very good as well, from experience.

If we're talking about practicality, it all depends on the mission at hand. The place, time, security, , equipment, weather, et cetera.

If your not a fan of night time exploration, or its just not practical for you, then for daytime exploration you need to find discreet times and places to enter, especially if its an active site. During changes of security shifts or lunchtime are good times to enter any place, active or not, unless your building is right next to a McDonalds.

I love doing things in which others have no idea even exist, dont you?

keep in mind of course you look a lot more suspicious walking around at 4:00AM in most places, cops will feel obligated to check you out IF they see you

other times crowds and activity are your friends, blend in, hide in plain sight, look like you belong someplace and often you will go unnoticed

That's the best part. It shows that the professional's choice to go in a place you're not supposed to without being observed is around 12 o'clock.

I'm not a big fan of slinking around in the dark to explore sites. It's dangerous, very. You can't take pics in the dark except under very special circumstances. Most cases the dynamic range is so bad the pictures are crap as evidence by some posted here on this site.

Why shoot in twilight when you can shoot in broad daylight? dah. Even if you go before dawn and lay chilly till day break, good light is still 2+ hours away, and it's worse inside. There are some places you have to do this. Night is as much your enemy as ally. Night is neutral; what it hides from others, it hides from you, especially if your moving rapidly. If the observer is using 3rd generation night vision or worse FLIR, and your not, your fucked. Don't get too clever.

Finally I wholeheartedly agree with 2Xplorations, at 4 in the AM, you'll look real suspicious on an empty lot or street, especially with gear. Cops will come up and say "hello" if they're sure about your motives. If your hiding; you got something to hide. Moreover night patrol is know as the "hot" shift in some areas and some cops deliberately to night owl for this reason. With certain sites that have been vandalized and looted, cops know if your there between dusk and dawn, your there to commit crime.

There is no firm "rule", but daylight is normally best for taking pics and exploring.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Well yeah, we are talking about different approaches:
- Going in undetected, trying everything possible not to be detected.
- Going in broadly, trying to look like everything is alright and correct.
Both methods have their justification and should be applied if needed.

I know there are some folks who will only explore at night. I RARELY ever do, mostly for reasons already mentioned by 2X and Blackhawk. I know these reasons have already been talked about, but the MAIN reason I don't explore at night is safety. There is a whole list of safety reasons I won't go into here, but two of them are flashlights and drops. You can't see a hole or other danger without a light, and you can't use a light without SIGNIFICANTLY increasing your chance of being seen.

(2) Pictures. Some of the most spectacular pictures I've seen are night shots. I love taking night shots. But like someone else already said, except for those few specialty shots, the rest of photography is pretty much sucksville. As for stealth? I totally agree with 2X, and my exploring partner (who is 9 yrs old) and myself use this as our mode of stealth.... The easiest way to hide, is in plain site. Works great for me. I may have bad luck on my next trip, but I've never been busted by the cops so far. Generally, if I can't explore a place by day, it doesn't get much attention from me. I will do it in some situations, but never, NEVER alone.

i only go by night... i know how police think and i know the laws in my area as for loitering and searching of a person's belongings, i only UE with a mask on, i will not approach a site without my mask on... all the missions failed succeded have either been well scouted in advance, or were known to my crew before we went, we always discuss our plan of attack on the site before we leave for the mission aswell as go over the plan on the way and while doing it... as we have done this, the only problem i have ever run into was a drunk guy saw us on the roof of a mall once, he wanted us to help him up there also... he only saw us for a half second, masks covered our faces and i don't even think he was sure he saw us...

other rule i live by, always have an exit planned, if not more, when first accessing a site, look for other escape routes incase of PD or such later on, i have done missions at all times in the dark, usually no earlier than 7 pm though...

If you want to go to bars, clubs, go hang out with regular guys...

Are the masks because of the cold climate, or so cops know that they should chase you when they see you?

my two cents on this is it is better to explore unknow territory in the day time so you are more able to figure out the place, and or rember were you where and that such stuff. Also with day missions there is not the creepy factor of night. At night though it is easier to "sneak" but you do have to be more carefull if you do not know the place since you don't know it's "querks". I would personal at least scout a place before any night time missions at a new location.

Hey, if your in the mood theres nothing wrong with waving a giant yellow and white flag on the top of a building, and then jumping down with your masks on and getting a good night, workout, running from the cops through the forest.

Seriously now; On the deal of headgear, specifically masks, I have 3 of them myself, but i'd only wear them if I was for sure going to be seen on camera or otherwise inevitably seen by someone or something and there was no other way to get out of being seen. Afterwards, I would never return to that place, ever.

Its way too suspicious when you wear masks, because when you wear them, people assume your up to no good, especially friendly cops, where they would be friendlier with you if you werent wearing masks, instead they're calling for backup and theres some helicopter over your head as your running through the dry cool, quiet, night, with the sound of that whip-whap noise of the helicopter and breaking of branches as your running through the forest.

Review: Dont wear masks...Unless you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO.

let me rephrase, i said that wrong... i use my mask when i'm in an area that cannot be easily seen by the road, so anyone who i might happen accross would be a potential witness, or a camera... as for the knowing the area, we always do scouting missions, usually in the day, walk around the site, no touching no climbing... unless of course, you have a guide that knows the site, i've done it this way and have had no close calls... i don't walk down the road with my mask on though... it's a camera evasion/face covering for pic thing, the NEWPORT City Club, only time i put my mask on was for pictures...

And some 'witnesses' pack...
As distorted void pointed out most people would take you for what you appear to be; a bad guy. You've seen the movies, you know the drill.
Cop stops you and searches you because of something that had nothing to do with you, but finds the mask. Your in the hurt locker. At the very best he won't believe a word you say.
