| | I'm new here...Bristol, VA < on 7/20/2006 7:44 AM >
| | | Hello, all! I've just recently discovered this wonderful website and forum. I've been looking at urban exploration websites for over a year, and I was pleased and surprised to learn that there are others who enjoy wandering around old, dilapidated buildings. My experience with urban exploration is rather limited. I once walked through two abandoned houses near Marion, VA when I was around 12 years old, and I found it fascinating. I guess that wouldn't really be considered "urban" exploration, as the houses were way out in BFE, but it was interesting, just the same. I recall finding a letter dated 1968 left on a table. I live in Bristol, VA, and there are few locations in this area to explore. There's a local hospital which has been sitting unused since 1963 that I've been dying to look at for years. It was built in 1925, and it was Bristol's only hospital until the new one (now gone) was built in 1953. It served as a nursing home for ten years after the hospital moved, and it's been sitting there rotting since then. It seems that I'm the only person in my area with any interest in these abandoned buildings. I would love to talk to anyone interested in urban exploration in my area. Bristol...Tri-Cities...even Knoxville. JD

| | | 1) Find some old railroad tracks 2) walk along them till you find something cool 3) take pictures. Seriously, Maryland and the surrounding states are covered in rail road tracks, the old B&O mainline among other rails all goes through maryland. Back in the day rail was the major (basically only) way to transport heavy industrial equipment and materials over long distances so you have all kinds of old factories etc... still sittin quietly along the rails waiting for you to come find them.

UA is top shelf UE. And don't forget that Dan does TFCD modeling too. . . . if you're into that sort of thing.

Indeed. Besides biking on abandoned railroad tracks is quite fun. I might be doing some of that tomorrow (the ones near that Bodo's for those around C'Ville) on bike, or I might go draining, or I might sit around at home, depending on the temp and whether I can find any friends up for a bit of an adventure.
