| | | Day or Night? < on 11/11/2005 11:29 PM >
| | | I see quite a few pictures on the databases of places being explored during the day, which brings up a good question. Is it better to UE in the daylight, or at night? personal preference, or is it based more on security nearby?

| | | Yea I think the level of security is usually the deciding factor. I usually check out a site in the daytime, like scope it out. I go in at night the first time, almost always, and then if its pretty chill I'll come back in the daytime and explore it more extensively. It all really depends on the place though

| | | There are things you can do at night, and things you can't. As a general rule... scouting is easier in the day, infiltrating is easier at night. As you can imagine there are a billion exceptions to that rule. It depends on the scenario. Use common sense.

| | | I do mostly day explorations (in fact, the only time I explored at night was when me and my dad snuck into an active Basketball stadium), just because I can't stay out late. Besides, I like being in a drain and seeing light from a grate or something far up ahead. I'm pretty sure you can only steam tunnel late at night though, because workers go down there during normal hours.

| | | Excellent reason for exploring during the day: Photography. Even if you have a good flash, your pictures just won't look as good without the natural light.

| | | I would say its a personal preference. Kjones said it perfectly, a lot of people are into UE because of the photography. Personally I go in drains at night because of the stealth factor, not many cars, not many people out at night. I guess I'm just a night person in general though.

This depends on what you're taking pictures of ... don't forget skyline photography in urban areas - one of my favorite subjects! Time exposures aren't as riveting during the day. ~Grit.

| | | I would think the flash would not work in your favor, basically your are setting off a beacon telling everyone your in somewhere you shouldn't be.. Mostly I would say up to the person and how they feel.. I'm a night crawler so I don't really ever explore during the day (mostly since I would be sleeping) so I mostly explore at night..

| | | I far prefer the day. It usually is better for photography and just easier to see things in general. Of course, there are always places that just aren't feasible to go into during the day.

| | | Daytime for most stuff... I love how sunlight filters down through grates and manhole covers. One thing I always wanted to do in college was to explore the steam tunnels during the daytime, but that was just asking to get caught.

| | | I prefer night explorations. A drain system my friends and I used to frequent had the downside of only being accessable (easily) across from a busy hospital. So the only way to get inside w/o encountering security was to wait for nightfall and to be quick and quiet. For those of you scared of night exploration, take a friend. If you go it alone, just tell yourself that you're probably the worst thing skulking around, and chances are you're right.

I prefer to explore at night and light paint my photos. My flash doesn't fire during an infiltration.
