As it's been pointed out resurveying marks are expensive and time consuming and in the case of benchmarks they dont make em like they used to. Surveyors locate the benchmark and use that to establish other station points and from that all other elevations. Watch out for stakes with neon ribbons... and especially the square small low stakes near them (hubs) The hubs mark surveyed points and the +/- writing on the stakes indicates the distance the ground will be raised/filled from the hub in 100ths of a foot. Other things to watch out for in areas under construction are flourescent ground markings. Orange (or sometimes red) with a trident shape (E) indicate electrical lines underground, green is sanitary sewer, yellow is buried gas, and blue is water. Often if you keep your eyes to the ground near sites you can find out sites for future explorations... I found an 108" combined overflow that way.
