Alright, you win cash, congrats (and your second picture is the better of the two IMO) now which of my two "surreal" or whatever you want to call it pictures is better... I need a new cover photo for my facebook...

Not really, I'm actually curious of feedback. I'm going to use one of them for a project I'm doing and needed a picture of myself and figured a non typical shot works, so yeah...

Probably the first one. In the second the light is a little distracting and it's confusing trying to see what's going on. The first is simpler and I personally love portraits on slower shutter speeds.

Definitely the first, in addition to what ^ said, there's also more information to register in that one. The other is definitely abstract but perhaps too much. It leaves some dead space you can't really find as much attention in.

Both are great shots, but I don't really feel like either is exactly surreal. I guess the first one is a bit more surreal. Although I honestly didn't really notice there was anything strange about it until I looked at it closely for a few seconds after reading your explanation.

The second one is more creepy than surreal.

Personally, when I think of surreal photography, I imagine something really bizarre, like this one:

But maybe my definition is off?

I have that calendar in my kitchen.

I think that's more surreal artwork than photography, seeing as 99% of the effort is put into cropping several shots together. It almost seems like photography is a minimal part of the process somehow.

Again this is only my take on it, but I think abstract or surreal photography occurs mainly when taking the shot, not accenting it.
