| | | | Suggestions on getting into this Brooklyn Landmark?!? < on 11/29/2011 10:46 PM >
| | | Hey guys, So if your from NYC you know what i'm talking about. I've tried going around both sides of the sugar factory but none are accessible...my only thought is dead through the front and climbing barbed wired gates in a up and coming neighborhood in Brooklyn full of out of town hipster police informants. Anyone been inside? I've noticed a lot of new graffiti but i imagine that was probably done at night. I'd like to document this place before it becomes a condo. Any other suggestions? or other suggestions to get in. If you look at my posting history I've tried to get in. I'm not asking for the front door... just asking if its possible. Positive feedback would be greatly appreciated! -g [last edit 11/29/2011 10:47 PM by hazedbms - edited 1 times]

| | | Anything is possible. You said you think the graffiti was done at night? Predawn it if you feel like thats the only safe way.

| | | yeah that's what i was thinking. just curious as to how get into the front... really considering getting a bolt cutter and leaving it behind but don't wanna ruin it for others. and heighten the chains or locks. think they are under camera surveillance? or motion sensors ?

| | | I'd be super careful. The last batch of graff writers there had to make a seriously close escape. The owners caught on and installed cameras. Look closely, there's a few visible from the street.

| | | Why don't you see if you can contact the owners and simply ask? Tell them you have always been interested in the place and want to take some photos of the interior. You might be surprised,.....they may say yes.

Nah. It's in the process of becoming condos, and a lot of the area has risen up against a lot of the proposed (and passed) construction they're doing to a landmark building. They won't say yes. They even had an "open house" to try to warm the neighborhood to the new development project and locked it down tightly, letting people meander the waterfront while eating popcorn and carrying leaflets on how it was going to help a blighted neighborhood. I talked to the site manager during that time out of curiosity. Sneaking in predawn is really your best bet. And it's still tight, and they have started doing work. I'd suggest there's much better (and more accessible) things in the area. Also that street is a hotbed of sketch in the evenings. Be careful.

yeah thats what i noticed... just that my dad worked there when i was kid so i wanted to document it for him as an xmas gift... It was his first job in the US. Guess i'll have to just try my luck... take 3 days off and be willing to spend them in bookings... lol predawn does sound like the perfect but what about when the sun has risen and im trying to sneak outta there... i need a raft. lol they side i was able to access would lead to the front of the dock along the water but the gap between the ground and dock is like 12 feet distance... and swimming in the FDR isn't on the top of my list. i was also thinking rigging some rope and using that to get across the 12 feet of water to the dock.

| | | If youre that concerned about leaving, just stay til it gets dark out. The days are shorter now so its easier to do so.

That would be fairly perfect, really. They do have a few cameras on the interior (I've only seen the monitors for them, I don't know where they are) but I assume they're fairly easy to spot and though they have a regular guard 'watching' them, the guys are often off wandering around on smoke breaks, playing on their phone, so on. Xmas sounds pretty ideal.

| | | Usually if youre caught on some kind of holiday they are much friendlier then any other day. I once had a run in with a DOC patrol and since it was Memorial Day he wanted to have an easy day and didnt really give a shit.

Thankfully it didn't. Just inquiring on something i've already attempted... not asking for hand outs. but thank you very much for the you reminder of how asking for advice from a community that is suppose to support a lost art and exploration can get you flamed... -_-

| | | I've looked at this place for awhile now, I'd recommend an aquatic or underground entrance, both wouldn't be easy. Cameras definitely exist within the perimeter, good luck and be careful.

| | | What is the place? Could you climb down the bridge side there? Or I would recommend rafting/ canoeing in.
