| | | How active are you Kansans on this board? By summers end I will be living in Wichita, KS again. I cannot wait to get back out and so some rural exploring like I used to do. Anyhow, is anyone from central KS into doing such things? There is great rural stories coming out of Oklahoma on this board. I hope I can do similar work once I get back home. | | | I visit Wichita every so often (have family there). There are a LOT of untapped locations around there. And I dont know if the KCURBEX guys venture away from there treasure troves in the KC area vary often.

I went to college there for a semester, and I lived in Pittsburg for 6 years. There are a lot of places around there. If you have not been to see Big Brutus you should check that out. [last edit 5/20/2011 5:22 PM by Sargeant Politeness - edited 1 times]

| | | I live in South Central KS south of Wichita. Always been wanting to do some exploration but never had anyone to go with me. Know quite a bit of history about Wellington and Oxford... Would love to get into this stuff more actively!

| | | #1 looks like it could be my future house! Was that house in south eastern ks? Seems like I've seen it before sometime on one of my journeys. I used to live in Parsons and never knew about big brutus until I stumbled upon it one night while I was country cruising. Still haven't been able to see it in the light though

| | | The brick building is on 166 between Sedan and Caney. Did you notice all of the other broken down brick buildings at this location? The town is at the intersection of 166 and k15. The hospital is in my home town and is newly vacant.

yep... i didnt get to do much more than drive by and grab a few shots, but i plan to at least come back to the house and brickyard [for lack of a better descriptor]... the hospital would be cool but being right in the middle of town and probably still being cleared out makes it a bit riskier...

| | | Another Ex checking in. I'll be moving to KS in a little over a month. Seems to be a fairly slow state on this forum. Are there a fair amount of places to explore (mainly around Wichita)?

| | | Wichita has some pretty good sized drains, some sweet industrial buildings downtown and there is of course Joyland which is pretty darn cool.

hi and welcome to the forum... its true there arent many members from ks, but im pretty sure the state has plenty to offer. wichita is a pretty large city and has several big industries, at least a couple of small universities, maybe with tunnels, and a long channelized creek for draining... so a liitle something for everyone... and oklahoma has several avid explorers... tulsa has a pretty big system of drains... so there is some stuff to do around here...

| | | I just found this thread don't know how I'd missed it. At any rate I make it down into Kansas once in a while. I'm north of Norton a little ways but I'm always up for a road-trip. If there's something going on down there shoot me a PM. If any of you head north for anything look me up. I'd be glad to show you what I've found around here.

My mom was born in Norton and grew up in Hill City. My dad grew up out in the country around Logan. I have been up there plenty of time, and love that part of Kansas. Have you ever been over to that "Universal College" or whatever it was called over by Smith Center? From what I gather this cult like church started building a college or something and ran out of money. I am not too sure about the details.

| | | We did a day trip 2 summers ago to central Kansas and hit up 5-6 missle sites around Salina. Got into one, a few were turned into houses and 2 more were inaccessible. There's still tons more. There's a Titan base on top of a hill in Assaria, KS. You can still see some small ruins. Barracks below were turned into greenhouses. The hill has a huge cross made of white stone. Many houses around with people outside so we couldn't go up nor find the owner. Edit: The accessible Atlas silo is in/near Lindsborg, Kansas [last edit 10/12/2011 4:44 PM by Esoterik - edited 1 times]

| | | So were the silos worth your time / was there a lot to see once you got inside? From what I've read most are sealed up or filled with water.
