| | Abandonded Buildings in Syracuse?! < on 7/5/2010 3:38 PM >
| | | Hello, I am an amateur photographer and I would like to begin photographing abandoned buildings. I'm not sure where to start! If anyone knows of any interesting buildings in Syracuse or in the surrounding areas, I would really appreciate it.

| | | Well I have been searching for about 2 months on various sites. But I figured fellow artists could help. I guess I over estimated people.

| | | wow that little movie thing seemed to take more work than just telling here where to go? Have you explored at all before? I know many buildings here of course but I don't really take complete newbies as they might not know what they are getting into.
not a hippie so lay off I never edit photos, that's cheating to me. |

| | | Of course I have searched! I just figured that people would be nice enough to point me in the right direction. I am sure all of you have had some help in one way or another. It's really quite difficult searching these kinds of things on Google because, website like this come up and you'd think there would be some half way decent people! I guess there is no sense of community out there anymore!

This attitude is certainly not going to help you. We don't know you, and are not going to share info when you could just as easily be a vandal or cop instead of a photographer.

| | | Protip: abandon google for cursory searches. get good at locating damaged roofs in maps.bing.com's birdseye view. then use google to follow up on leads you find in the aerials. also check out your state's Superfund Site list and just plain drive around, there's often no better way to find new places than just getting out there on the road. finally, if you're going to ask for info, hang around and figure out who is local to you, then ask in private message. Also, hang out here: http://www.uer.ca/...p?fid=1&catid=1089 for a while before you try to swim in the Northeast forum. it's a fuckin' shark tank here.
PS. Cops and vandals use cameras too. I know of one cop specifically in Bridgeport, CT that is a "ghost hunter". check out 826paranormal on flickr if you're skeptical. ;) [last edit 7/6/2010 5:27 PM by Felonious Monk - edited 3 times]

| | | Tip for hippy@heart, if you don't wanna share your info, don't put it on Picasa with a Google map of all your location on it.
