I assume your area is down south, since you are packing from the bedroom to the shitter.

Nope. Just North of Seattle.

Mill Creek is about a half hour north of Seattle to be specific. Great area to live too.

I just bring a heavy flashlight and a multi tool with me - if I needed to defend myself I would either run or use something nearby. I agree with one of the first posts - a quick escape is the best weapon.

About the only time I am not packing is when I go UE. Its foolish to cross onto posted property packing heat.
#1 You get caught with a weapon, especially a firearm and you will be charged will all kinds of shit.
#2 You are more likely to run into the security guard/landowner/dogooder than a crack fiend or gang of thugs. If the landowner shoots at me, my instinct is to seek cover and return fire, thus killing the motherfucker and since its his property he was in the right, and I am now wanted for murder.
Its kind of a catch 22, either way your fucked. Its best just to keep your guard up and avoid/escape a bad situation.
The only exception to my rule is public lands where its legal to pack heat, but not many abandonments exist on public lands here in my state.

I do carry a knife but under 3.5" its not considered a weapon by the law here. I would never take it out my pocket unless I was to gut someone, only if I was 100% sure I was in a position to gut someone.

A knife is never a deterrent to violence like a firearm can be. If someone pulled a knife on me at one of these abandonments, I would chase them throwing bricks and bottles. Others who are better trained would take it from you and stick it up your ass.

No, I don't think I've ever heard about that happening to anyone anywhere at any time. The best defence is a good escape.

I second that, your already doing something bad by being back there, dont make it worse.

Came pretty close to having to a few weeks back. On the way out of a local industrial site surrounded by brush land a nice little pack of coyotes decided to stalk and flank us. Luckily we noticed before they got us encircled and managed to hold them off with a few thrown rocks until we could get away. Other than that never had any need, But I always carry a pocket knife on me anyway.

I carry two knives with me both of legal length. Depending on the area my maglite. (although most of the time I either use my headlight or my small gerber LED flashlight to save space.)

If needed I could always bring a wrecking bar. But that would land me in a world of trouble if I get caught.

My flashlight is about 12 pounds of steel with a nice rubber grip, and I also have personal self-defense training.

I also have a few knives, though i've never taken them along.

Make a sturdy walking stick out of a strong hardwood. It can function as a prybar when the need arises, but I've found that it makes cops less likely to arrest you for trespassing (if used in the right scenario). They tend to think you are a hiker and you are lost, so they will be more likely to redirect you off the property. Plus, it's awesome for self-defense in the right person's hands.
Remember, there are places that a staff would raise eyebrows though. (A drain, a crane,....)

Behind every mistake, there is a lesson.

I'm just not that great at learning them!
