Just follow the tracks...

I read somewhere online the best way to find urban decay is by following the train tracks to see where they lead. More often than not long walks along the tracks leads to sore feet, worth it though because it often leads to results! Earlier this past summer I was wandering the tracks and look what I stumbled into! This roundhouse may be a bit small but I found it to be very photogenic, and a bit of history (http://www.shorehamyards.org/) to boot is always nice.

In early December 2005 CP Rail notified the City and community that they believed the structural integrity of the roundhouse is compromised, prompting closure of a nearby track.
Yeah the place has seen better times, I saw a ladder leading to the rooftop, but thought twice about hitting that...

The roundhouse may be derelict, but it sits in a very active yard, explore carefully. Enjoy the shots!

That's a cool looking place. I agree about following train lines - you know you're bound to run into something eventually (e.g. a train ).

I don't think it's the one I'm thinking of (in NE Mpls), but it's very similar!!
GREAT shots! I enjoyed every one of them!

Crap, it IS the same one!

Wow, it's changed a bit over the years since I've been there!

I climbed the dodgy ladder back then, BTW - I described the night-time roofscape as "Mary Poppinsish".
Magical.

Still, great job on the photography!

Thanks for the compliments, looks like the second trip paid off!

Yeah the place is in a state of disrepair. When I was walking through the area where I took picture #3, I felt like I was in some middle eastern town that had just been bombed to pieces, weird feeling really.

A return trip might be in order this spring to see how well the roof held up the heavy snow during the winter months.

Cross your fingers she doesn't fall over!

The exterior (shot #1) looks to have a lot of potential!

Be wary of railway cops btw, I know a lot of rail lines are homeland insecurity turf...

In memorandum:

http://www.uer.ca/...ow.asp?locid=28749

Please excuse the shitty pic quality I took them ages ago on an old point and shit that had seen a LOT of explorations.

I know a lot of other people visited and probably got better shots than mine so please upload them. As far as I know Gatsby & I were the first to visit and totally explore the place and Gatsby wrote a fun story for the old HH zine on it that I posted on the location describing our first explore of it.

For now I'm still going to list it as full members only since it is on railroad property and not quite demolished yet.

Thats funny GreyKat, because I did a little bit of research on the place after my first visit and I ended up finding the old roundhouse story by Gatsby. Excellent story, I think it really touches upon the reasons why we all like to explore what many would consider to be an eyesore.

Here is a link to that article:

http://hollow-hill...ndhouse-by-gatsby/

Sadly though I don't remember hearing any random noises or experiencing anything out of the ordinary while on site. But I do remember the whole time I was exploring the place there was a very loud train just sitting there idling about ten feet from the backside of the building. Too bad this may have covered up any attempts by the ghost to scare the hell out of me!
