| | | Posted by wopke There was this huge old military hospital which was already partially demolished. I wanted to explore the last remaining buildings before they were gone. Took a walk around the site. Only 1 way in: the main entrance. A few problems however: there was a car at the front gate with a security guard in it, and all the signs at the gate which stated on how awsome their uber high-end motion detection alarm system was. I simply asked the guard if I could have a look and take some pictures. "Sorry kid, no can do, the whole place is rigged with motion sensors." Naturally, when he left I hopped over the fence. No alarms went of. Ninja skills: 1, high end alarm system: 0. As soon as I entered the first building I heard voices and a camera. I took a sneak peak and saw another explorer. I walked up to him with a big smile and asked:"so also an UE huh?" He said:"ehm, noooo, I'm working here." CRAP he took me to the security guard which was really really really pist off. But they decided to let me go without any fines or anything. I think I had the chance to take 1 picture, it isnt even a good one.

| | | I'm foreshadowing my mistake right now. Heading out to Clown Town tomorrow night. My friend tells me that the old man out there shoots at you if he finds you. However, this location is one i do not want to miss. I'll make sure i keep you guys updated on my iPod from the hospital! (hope i don't need to resort to that) <Begins practicing his ninja skills>
The caged being inside of you must break free from his shackles, for our partial sanity or pseudo-sanity, if so applies, cannot contain it forever without repercussion of mental breakdown. |

I always wear Jeans no matter the Temperature. I'm always worried about Poison Ivy, and ticks and rashes happening.
|
Ticks can crawl up your jeans, unless you tuck them into your socks. They particularly like jeans, actually, because the texture makes it easier for them to grip to.

This is true. The only real way to prevent ticks is to not walk through high brush or if you do, check your legs immediately after. I found one on me after yesterday's explore. My biggest mistake was underestimating the height of a ledge that I jumped from. It looked like a ten foot drop onto concrete but it ended up being closer to twenty. When I landed, I didn't roll and it felt like I almost broke my legs. [last edit 8/31/2009 6:41 PM by Switch_ - edited 1 times]

| | | Me and my friend are new to UE, we actually were unaware that there was a term for what we were doing in our free time. Our biggest mistake was definitely a rookie mistake. We didn't scout out our location first. There is a ghost town near the city I live in and me and my friend decided to take some other people with us to go investigate it. One person who came with us had persisted there was no security and we would be fine. There were five of us, all girls, all dressed in black walking a half a mile in between two mountain ridges playing with our flash lights and giggling. Just having fun. Well with our luck when we got to the gate of the ghost town there was a flash and a voice came over the loud speaker, "The park closes at..." None of us knows what was said after because we were all screaming and running away. We got caught but by the grace of god our lies were all in sync and the ranger just let us go stating "I hope the picture is as lively as your screaming." Its been a couple months since and my friend and I are still curious to if they have the pic.
"The Park closes at..." Ahhhhhh!!! |

| | | You may have parked a mile away and hiked it on foot but that doesn't mean just because you instructed your accomplices to do the same that they actually did. The efforts of the many are pulled down by the few.

| | | tc_villain and I went out to check out a nearby dredge. We came in through the woods off of the highway, only we left walking down the main road from the gravel pit. Not a smart idea, but we wanted to leave quickly because rain was approaching (which went north). I knew something bad would happen, and sure enough a pickup comes down the road, the redneck behind the wheel is pissed (can't blame him, but it's unfortunate he has to label every explorer as a bad egg) and tells us the cops are on the way (we parked right by the entrance, also not a smart move). Most likely it was an empty threat, because we left without any trouble. So what did we learn today? 1: DON'T park by the entrance road, 2: Leave the same way you came in, and 3: If your instincts tell you something is a bad idea, listen to your instincts.

$5 says it's that one dude with the song and the music video. But I might be confusing him with the hobo who lives in the bathroom at Greystone and loves to poop in random rooms.

Did it hurt for a long ass time after? (Like a week or two?) If it did, you most likely bruised your muscles. Happened to me, twice.

| | | Posted by sandaili My biggest mistake so far...not putting on my mask soon enough. I walked through the basement of a hospital that was flooded, should have put on my mask as I'd never been there before, before entering. Asbestos everywhere.

how do you recognize asbestos? I've been looking at pictures on the internet but its just small samples, how do you recognize it in a building?

| | | Biggest mistake was not picking up on one of my "safe" locals hints to GTFO of a location while showing around an out of towner. There was a rather aggressive fellow just down the hall who was all too pleased to meet us. Made it out alright but there were a few very tense moments. EDIT to say: Don't get so confidant in your knowledge of the location that you ignore obvious signs to cut out! [last edit 9/17/2010 3:53 AM by AdventureDog - edited 1 times]

It has a very distinctive taste, somewhere between lime and concrete dust.

Sorry, forgot the Rookie Forum Rules. It's similar to plaster board, basically if you see a white or blue powdery substance assume it's asbestos unless you get good information otherwise.
