holy crap...really?

You and me will all go down in history, with a sad Statue of Liberty, and a generation that didn't agree.

I am a single dad with two kids and when I go out I like to have a destination in mind.

Thats why the DB is perfect for me. I can see where there is something to find, then set out and check everything out along the way there. But I kind of don't randomly wander around Hamilton with my two kids looking for places to explore.

I drove by a place last night by accident on the way home from diner with friends and I was really interested in knowing what it was. Looked really neat, small building, EVIL written on the door LOL! What got me was the familiarity.

I dream of exploring, so when I see something as it was in a dream Im like SQUEEEE I know exactly what it looks like inside! And I'm often right!

Now I actually bought a camera! So when I find the cord for it I'll be sharing

So basically you want other people to do your homework? I'm sure that will win you friends around here.

Haha you're good at making people sound bad, all way around.

So were you born grumpy?

Are you going to take your kids exploring when you do find buildings in the LDB? If so, why not take them to look for new stuff? If you were going to go exploring when they weren't around, why can't you look for new stuff then as well?

Or, were you using "I have kids" as an excuse to ask for handouts? Because I gotta tell ya, there are loads of people on UER who have children (substitute or add jobs, dogs, families, and other hobbies if needed) who make time to explore without going through the LDB first.

Sorry, I don't do freebies for lazy people. If you got off your ass you could easily find sites that are easy to access in your city, you just want someone to connect the dots for you.

As for civility, you get back whatever you put in. Your just saying everyone else's time is not as valuable as yours, and like SaraBellum said everyone else has kids, jobs, other responsibilities and they still make time.

No I think someone just salted your shreddies.

Like there is no reason for you to be like that toward me.

If I were to complain that I was late because I had to walk and you're driving by me laughing like I don't deserve to drive.

Point is my kids do not come exploring with me. So when I head out I like to plan a scenic route to see what I'm going to be passing by so I can hit a few sites on a scout walk because I rarely get the chance to go on them.

I'm being totally civil. You're just looking for ways to troll my thread.

I think you're on a different thread all together.

I just want to see whats out there, so by your idea maybe we should delete the database because it only helps people cheat or are you so pious that you don't even look at it?

And the whole point is?

You're calling me out on being a cheater and a lazy ass when you have absolutely no right to judge. So lay off you're being freaking rude man.

I just want to study sites and I should not have to troll justify. So I'm ignoring you I don't need to be harassed because I'm on the rookie forum don't you read the pinned posts about not being a jerk to noobs?

I know I read it.

Generally when you ask for something around here it helps to contribute a little something back. If you look around yourself you would have figured this out yourself just by reading through this forum.

And no, I don't go location shopping on the DB. I look at stuff on occasion when I travel but I look for stuff myself, and get suggestions from people I actually know. If you were not such a jerk, and you contributed a little instead of bitch when people do give you suggestions, you might have full user access and you'd see what I have put in the db myself.

Also, when you ask for something you are gonna get peoples opinions. Don't like it, get off your computer and go look around yourself. If you get this annoyed by someone disagreeing with you since your not actually getting what you want, your not going to have any fun around here.

To whom it may concern.I`m still a basic member and i have found plenty of
places to explore.I live in wisconsin and there really isn`t much here but
with a little effort anything is possible.

The biggest kick for me is finding new places on my own with out the help of
other`s

Oh I've found a bunch of great places too, I just want to see if they're up there and what I can do to contribute to the locations that are missing or don't have inside shots yet.

You know, so I can be really useful when I get somewhere.
Fill in whatever holes are there or add to what I can. There are those who are glory hogs that don't want new people to succeed who feel compelled to pick on noobs and there are some real great friends I've made on here and I'll be contributing as much as I can for those who have been so kind to me!

Thanks for everyone who's been chill. Appreciated!

Ok so I've got a few GREAT places to explore....

I hate not being a full member because I want to see if they are on you database.

Go to a site & look for evidence around the entrance point that we've been there before:

All full members here had to memorize the signals & pass a test on them, and we've all sworn a solemn oath to help our fellow UE'ers along by leaving accurate signs at places we've visited.

Mr. Lucifer,

Most of the people on here have earned their full membership status by either being referred by others or by finding their own locations and posting them. Some may already be in the database but that goes with not knowing what's behind the full membership door

I can empathize with your situation where you'd like to visit the locations and take photos while at the same time understanding that without any locations to visit, that you don't have any places to take photos at.

I would recommend just driving about and looking for places of interest. Google maps can help find abandoned businesses (empty lots during business hours are one telltale sign), country side roads are ideal for old farmsteads and even real estate websites can be used to locate abandoned locations.

You could also try sites like Flickr or Facebook and just ask people if they would tell you where these places are. Some will gladly share this information while others will be less trusting. Sometimes the location information is even in the photo description.

As the saying goes, "where there's a will..."

Intrinsic I really appreciate that thank you.

I have found a site that I am interested in exploring. I don't drive and I stay close to home but I was out of my way and discovered a very interesting site.

After I go look at it I'll post and see where it goes from there.

I'm looking into historic sites and significant events in the city's history and learning about the buildings that remain, even if I can't get into them or if they are no longer standing I'm able to work in understanding of a picture of our past, I love to dig.

My two careers of choice were archeology and iron working/construction. Yes digging up buildings and climbing up new ones to put them together by hand.

So exploring industrial or man made modern abandonments is a thrill for me.

You'll all see some photos soon.

I just bought a new camera Friday and haven't been out since I hurt myself!

Get a wrist strap - mine's saved my camera from various horrible electronic fates about 50 times over. If it were a consultant I'd have to give it a cut of ($80) times (50 losses prevented).

If its abandoned, there were ppl there at one time, so its never truly virgin.

Dont know about the broken camera fetish, but if you just get out walking around town you are sure to find some good locations. You could watch the local news for business closures and such.

Youre in Hamilton, right? Thats a pretty industrial town. Hmmm.. I can think of several good spots worth a look and Im not from around there.

I took my camera to the place that I bought it, and honestly she showed me a whole variety of cases and it clicked. But that wrist strap idea THANK YOU!

Doing that asap. I have already dropped (minor) my camera a few times around the house and I just got it!

I just think now I have to start going out of my way? Well honestly. I take the same roads every day and walk by the same things, so lets go out of the way this time as see what I find shall we?

Thanks again everyone for the great suggestions and ideas!

if you are looking for a challenge and can get down this way in the summer (there are camp grounds nearby) i would suggest the South Western Mental hospital. It closed last year. Everyone i have heard says it is sealed. I would love to see what it looks like inside but i am chicken to break into places.

Chatham? I've been there. I'm from St Joseph Island.

Yeah mental hospitals are my kind of thing. Lets do er. I'm a rat, I'll squeeze into anything if i want to badly enough. Every hospital like facility has an incinerator. They dig them deep too, I'll crawl, climb or claw my way into anything I want into.

Hows the security setup and is it in any heat spots?
