Hi,

I spent the last couple of days around Detroit. It was a wonderful experience. Here are a few pictures from my explorations. Nothing really new, maybe an old printing plant close to Fisher 21.

That sucks!

Whenever we drove past the place in the past there was always a cop parked outside so we didn't chance it. How did it go down?

Huh? looks fine to me...

As for our arrestation, the cops were really rude. they insulted us, kicked us and treated us like real criminals.

But once at the police station, we were took in charge by a cool officer who looked like 50 cents, and we were released shortly after without charges.

Wow.

I was there that weekend as well!

I was in MCS for about 3 hours, wearing a North Face fleece, had a white cap, carrying a black tripod and D3. Another individual was with me as well. We ran across several other photographers... was one of them you?

For me, yeah I had not been to Detroit prior to this weekend, even though I now live within a three hour drive of the city. We were there for other purposes, but you can't pass up the Ambassador and MCS!

awesome shots, sux about being arrested, but hey, it happens to the best of us.
plus, no charges, which is always nice. I hope to visit sometime. looks amazing!

Also have to say that the pic of the roof and pillars is a favorite of mine as well.. considering making it my background.

How the hell did you get arrested in Highland Park? They don't even have a city run police force the last time I checked.

yes they do, and they are the ones who arrested us.

The police station is now located in a tiny office inside the T Model Plaza.

I wonder if the irony of their situation even hit home w/ those cops: The system (at large) shut down their former station for 'lack of funds' (although, of course, there are always TRILLIONS for the pentagon, foreign aid, 'homeland security', the middle east wars, the war on drugs, etc, ad nauseum), yet they will vigorously (if indirectly) protect that same system by arresting and being rude to those who would DARE to trespass and violate the law.
And we wonder why 'we', nationally speaking, are in such a rough time....

They got some bad publicity with shots from the police station being put on dig and other popular websites. Official police uniforms, case evidence, guns and other things have been stolen out of there. Not exactly good press. Doesn't surprise me that you got caught there. I've heard of a few people being arrested in a certain abandoned school as well. The DPS is frustrated over all the rampant scrapping going on. Detroit may be an exploring mecca but there's always a chance of the authorities making an example of you.
