| | | Posted by SoNaive I say burn ActionSatisfaction. anyways, to me, it's just a flag. it would be the same as taking someone's underwear out of an abandonment. just a piece of cloth. I never understood the obsession with flags.
|
Yeah, its a piece of cloth, that symbolizes you're government, and country.... and we all know what nationalism leads too.............. NAZI'S [last edit 12/4/2008 10:52 AM by galax - edited 1 times]
"Government is not reason; it is not eloquence; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master." "There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible to live without breaking laws." |

I've heard that flags are a typical Gateway Violation. First it's properly disposing of a flag, the next thing you know he's scrapping copper and tagging. To BennyBear - If you feel like you should remove the flag, then do it.

| | | If the flag is in really bad condition, take it home and look up the right way how to retire a flag. It includes reciting the national anthem and some other stuff. Just make sure you retire the flag respectfully and not just tossing it into a fire.

I'm pretty sure he knows how to retire a flag, what with being a Boy Scout and all.

| | | I say if you want to take it and dispose of it properly go for it. Thinking back on it I have found old flags in abandoned buildings, schools actually. I didnt take them, I left them be, or one that was on the ground I picked up an hung.

My personal stance on it is... You seem like you've got a good head on your shoulders and you obviously don't take these things too lightly. You already know what is right and what is wrong, so follow your heart on the subject and do what YOU think is right. There isn't a person on this site that can tell you what is right or wrong in this game. So, if that made any sense...
And then, it asks the question: in a cold, uncaring, ruthless world of corporate slavery and assembly-line experiences . . . how is it possible to still live a life with strength, and passion, and with a soul that is still truly alive? |

| | | I'm a retired drill Sgt for a local Honor & Color Guard organization (includes guarding the flags or colors with USMC M1 replicas and demonstrating rifle drills for various events including funerals). I'm very well versed in the United States Code for the US Flag, and having it hang there without proper retirement or removal is violating the US Code and it's ethics. You can view the actual US Code (rules and regs) here. If it were up to me, I would honor my country and my past service to the country by the removal of the flag, and properly retire it or display it elsewhere for others to view and enjoy. But that's just me...

So... just curious... what if, instead of having to steal the flag, you had to kill some kittens to get the flag, would you do it then? [last edit 12/7/2008 2:20 PM by MutantMandias - edited 1 times]

I disagree. re⋅li⋅gion [ri-lij-uhn] –noun
- a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects
- something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience
|
You left some deffinitions out, particularly the mose commonly used one.
re⋅li⋅gion /rɪˈlɪdʒən/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [ri-lij-uhn] Show IPA Pronunciation –noun 1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs. 2. a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion. 3. the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions. 4. the life or state of a monk, nun, etc.: to enter religion. 5. the practice of religious beliefs; ritual observance of faith. 6. something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience: to make a religion of fighting prejudice. 7. religions, Archaic. religious rites. 8. Archaic. strict faithfulness; devotion: a religion to one's vow.
pa⋅tri⋅ot⋅ism /ˈpeɪtriəˌtɪzəm or, especially Brit., ˈpæ-/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [pey-tree-uh-tiz-uhm or, especially Brit., pa-] Show IPA Pronunciation –noun devoted love, support, and defense of one's country; national loyalty.
Patriotism is clearly specific loyalty and respect for a nation, religion is far more encompasing and while some may be patriotic to the extent of it being almost religious, but there is another word for that, nationalism.
