| | | Always alone, always careful. never without a cell phone, always let the wife know exactly where I'm going, always check in on arrival/departure at site. No problems yet.

| | | I'd never risk going alone, but I'm also slightly paranoid. I enjoy the benefit of a second opinion on things like unidentified noises and line of sight and structural integrity and stuff. Plus, having someone to watch your back makes it a lot easier for me to relax and less likely to do something stupid out of stress/distraction.

| | | scuba diving, rock climbing, swimming and exploring. buddy system. if you're friends are loud mouths, trouble makers or timid, then meet up with people who you know will follow the same rules you lay down when exploring. i took my brother exploring once. probably never again. i'd only go alone if people chickened out. either before, en route or at the site. i'd still tell a friend where i was going. when they should here from me by and what to do if they don't hear from me. cellphone, yes.

| | | although sometimes funner, and as you said easier, to be by yourself, i've seen some fucked up shit when buy myself, so i try to bring atleast one friend, but rarely more then two, cause three or less is perfect for me, but if you do go buy yourself, let a bunch of people know when and where your going and when to expect you back!

| | | Sometimes there's nothing like the solitude of being in an amazing place by yourself. Sometimes, it's great to share with friends/people who share the same interest. All depends I guess, but make sure if you go alone that you tell a friend or someone where you're going and possibly set up a time to give them a ring to make sure you're okay...If you tell them you'll text them at 3pm, and 8pm passes, it's safe to say they know you've been hobo-stabbed. Or something else along those lines.

That pretty much sums up the way I feel.
The social aspect is cool and its nice to have some one share the driving. I live hours from even the closest decent location. However, for a special place I prefer to go alone. That way I get the feeling of the place and can take my time on shots. As Karen said I always let somebody reliable know where I am and when I'm expected back.

| | | Yea I agree, I'm new here but from what little experience I've had I think it's more fun to have someone come along. That way, if you see something cool or unusual and don't take a picture of it, you'll at least have another person there to see it as well. On the other hand, some people just enjoy the solitude of an abandoned place and in order to get the most from it they need to be alone.

I agree. I like the social part of it too. Sharing the excitement, whatever.

| | | Recently I've been exploring alone for lack of experienced companions and I find it quite enjoyable. Although it limits you somewhat as to what spots you can visit. I prefer to go with experienced friends. It's safer, and it's always fun to have unique shared experiences with friends.

| | | Going alone might be interesting for me... Especially at night. For some reason I've really been wanting to do something way outside of my comfort zone, something really creepy. Exploring alone or at least at night would definitely do that for me. Am I weird for that? Exploring alone I think would be an advantage though. Exploring with my mate is most enjoyable, but if I was in a high risk/active location, it would be better to be alone, so I could be the true ninja that I am .

| | | ahhhhhh.... never go alone, the other night i was doing that and almost fell off a two story roof onto a lovely concrete bed. If someone had been with me at least i would have some support, or someone to call an ambulance lol. The way we usually do things is in teams of two, keeps conversation pretty limited, no one wanders off and becomes lost, and imo its better too have two sets of eyes checkin for 50 rather than one. Also, camera gear can get heavy.

| | | Exploring with others is often annoying when you're taking photographs. Either you are waiting for them to finish shooting or vice versa, they wander in front of your camera or ruin the picture with flashlights etc... [last edit 2/24/2009 1:37 PM by Tupsumato - edited 1 times]
