Now the two key words for tonight - "caution" and "flammable"...

My pleasure:

You want a carbon-steel knife, I use my trusty mora (favorite knife for campcraft, second only to my Swedish forest axe). Get a stone harder then the blade. Then strike the back of the knife.
Only downside: carbon-steel rusts a little too easy if you don't care for it.

in place of beating the hell outa your knife on random rocks you could always just have flint... Ideally one of the flints thats embedded into a brick of magnesium..

FIRESTEEL.

I carry the firesteel, it has worked every time that I need it, hot or cold.

Cool, thanks. I'll remember that. I guess it just shows how inexperienced I am that I thought you were being sarcastic.

Sometimes I wonder if my obsession with flashlights led to my interest in Urban Exploration, or conversely, if my
interest in exploration led to my flashlight obsession

I prefer and carry the BlastMatch. You can use it with one hand.

Add a small pair of Hemo's to that kit. It is one of the easiest ways to kick, bleedout.
The small ones can lock off even major arteries.
Available at head shops, and fishing shops. Watch that rebar!
