My First Knoxville Tennessee Post

I am not new to exploring. I have been into it for most of my life. I just didn't know, until recently, that there was such a devoted following to this awesome hobby. It is truly a pleasure to be able to be a part of this site and interact with its members.

These pictures are from an abandoned building in downtown Knoxville, TN. (I couldn't figure out how to get it on the LDB. As a noob, I probably can't.) There are other levels to this building that I was not prepared to explore but plan to later.

*As a side note*
I really need a new spelunking partner! My last two bailed on me after a run in with the police at the abandoned Target store on Broadway, which came to nothing more than running our names for warrants. I say this because there was a guy that hid in the building the whole time I was in it. I surprised both of us when I came back in to look for a door to the next building. I was like....WTF! Kind of creepy, on its own, but then he starts babbling about the somebody with the heat and a Glock. I said, "OK, well you take it easy buddy" and was out like a fat kid in dodge ball!

Anyway, as you can read, the building was once called Crane Co. This is a quote from a local paper (Knoxville News Sentinel) concerning the future, but not the past of this structure.

"The Knoxville Community Development Corporation plans to acquire the remaining McClung warehouses, which it describes as blighted.

Last February, part of that Jackson Avenue complex burned in a massive fire.

Current owner Mark Saroff (Of Saroff Development, I would imagine) and KCDC have been in longstanding disagreement over the properties.

It appears now that KCDC will try to acquire the properties as blighted.

The staff made that recommendation Friday, upon hitting the deadline for submission of proposals to redevelop the properties located at 517, 523, and 525 Jackson Ave.

KCDC did not receive any proposal from Saroff or any other developer.

That recommendation will now go forward to the Jackson/Depot Advisory Board, which will make a recommendation to the KCDC Board of Commissioners after reviewing the recommendation." That's all I know about it so far.

I hope I have the pictures right. I can't see them in the preview....

thats the easiest way.

So, in the past four weeks I've walked by that place (bringing people to the VMC) and it makes me sooo sad that the rest of it burnt down, I barely got to see it last summer, but it's a pretty cool place. Seems like there's a lot to explore in downtown Knox.

Quite a lot, actually. This building, in itself, has like five stories. I have only been on the street level floor.
There are several other buildings that I hope to check out soon.

Here are some new pics. I have been able to get into all the floors except the fifth. I am pretty sure someone was on that floor, as the door was basically barricaded from the other side.
Anyway, hope you enjoy.

The bed is pretty creepy. I have been wanting to go in there but its hard to get people to go with me. I figure if you can get in hobos can. The soup kitchen is right there... I need to check it out before it gets torn down or something. :/
