| | | So, I came across some pictures of an abandoned Detroit police station. Does anybody have anything to offer on this subject? I'm going back to MI for a week this summer and was wondering if this place still exists. Here is the link. http://brnation.d2...e/michigan_pd.html edit-added link [last edit 6/9/2008 7:12 PM by Wilk - edited 1 times]

Haha, most people spend time trying to get out! By the looks of those pictures, I don't think the DPD is worried about the place. If you've ever spent any amount of time in the Detroit area you would realize they've got better things to do. Anyways, I think I'm gonna be done with this thread before the man comes knocking at my door. Edit- with the speed things travel on the internet I would be VERY surprised if these pictures haven't already been seen by law enforcement and this place sealed up real good. No worries Junkyard. I didn't mean for my previous comment to have a negative tone.

Haha, isn't Detroit the city where the police were responding to a burglary at the wrong home, and ended up shooting an old man (in a wheelchair) who was holding a pepsi can, in his own house? Anybody? My version could be slightly distorted, though, since it is just coming from memory ... I'm not sure I'd wanna get in the way of the Detroit PD ... they sound a little trigger happy to me.
Sorry, I probably forgot my <sarcasm> tags. |

| | | So, I've found out where this place is. There is also a fire station and a courts building. All abandoned of course. The new police station for this suburb of Detroit is a mobile home trailer. No kidding.

| | | I don't mean to hijack the thread, but have any of you locals looked into the old Cass Tech High School? The original section I guess dates back to the 1920s or earlier & is abandoned, awaiting demolition. There is a newer 'wing' to it that is now used at the school.

| | | Highland Park Fire and Police Department are both working out of an abandoned warehouse. Due to city budget cuts they had to abandon their stations and move into trailers in the warehouse. I know the fire department is busier then it was before the cuts and manages to survive somehow, mostly with help from Detroit on a good day. Stop by there and I'm sure they will tell you the whole story!

They're just people. If you don't cross the line with them, you'll have no problems. In fact it may work to your advantage; cops can have access to places that are cool and/or knowledge of sites, and who owns it. ha-ha, I asked k-9 handlers when I see them to give their dogs "play time" if they aren't in a hurry. Being nervous, makes cops nervous. You prolly feel the same if roles were reversed...

Yea, your probably right. I agree that they are just regular joe's like you and me. I think my nervousness stems from my younger days of raising hell. I guess if I knew more cops on a personal level I would probably feel more comfortable.

| | | I've been to that jail before. last summer actually. I wanted to go back a few weeks ago but couldn't remember where it was. The pics on that site are older. Some of the things in those photographs are no longer there. Shame : ( But the building is still there, along with a fair bit of cool stuff to poke at inside.

Most of us were bastards when we were young... It helps to casually talk with them as you start to understand things from their prospective. You learn what has priority to them and their department. No matter what the situation is, you will always do better if your calm when dealing with them as you not only think clearer, but it also tends to put them at ease. If you can find ways to work along the lines of force rather then fight it, your more likely to succeed. Sort of like dealing with ripe tide or water currents. They are just part of the social landscape, and trespassing (not B&E) at abandonments to take pictures or out of curiosity is something they tend to understand and tolerate. Because I street shoot a lot, it's not uncommon for me to talk with them a couple times a month in the summer sometimes.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |
