A well known site in 'Frisco is Sutro Baths, they used to be a salt water bath house until they burnt down many years ago. Now all the remains are ruins. That's a tidbit of history and now some shots...

#1 & #2: Very cool!

#3: Would be really nice with the horizon leveled up.

#4: Slightly underexposed in the shadows for my taste.

#5: Nice, but again, it feels like it leans to the right, based on the back wall of the pool.

I think I have asked you about this place before.

its one of my favorite places in SF. these are really really cool.

night shots + cities + SF = good good stuff!

Number 3 really brings back good mental pictures of why I love this place.

edit -

how about some shots of the new oakland bay bridge?

#1: detail, texture and the color of water are fabulous. Great one just as it is.

#2: great example of making a centered horizon work. I love the smoothness of this shot and the vibrant colors. Perfect the way it is.

#3: not cutting it for me. I don't like the whole shot. The hazy fog kinda ruins it for me and I'm not fond of the cliffhouse...

#4: not bad, moody and dark, maybe could use a touch more exposure?

#5: great but lacking a little somehow. Compo is ok but maybe point to camera right a little?

Good stuff though. Major progress.

Freeside, it's interesting because I generally agree with your critique. I feel like 3-5 are the worst shots of the set, with 5 being the worst. Five is too plan there is no so what to the shot.

4) Potential is there, but overall I feel the shot is too plain and again missing the so what.

3) Right on the money free. Looking at it again, the shot has too much nothingness. As for the haze, unfortunately I can't control the whether...

Anyways, thanks for the tips!

here are my thoughts...

#1 this shot is great.....it's very creepy and leaves me wondering what is in the water.

#2 is really nice. i like the colors and compo, but the horizon is a tiny bit crooked.

#3 just doesn't do it for me. i think the photo has a lot of elements in it, but none of them are "complete" [by that i mean there's half a rock showing, or half the ruins, or half the cliffhouse.]

#4 i like this shot, it's kind of an "establishing shot" with an interesting compo, but i think if the exposure was evened out a bit it'd be a little more pleasing to the eye.

#5 i agree with freeside on this one.

these are great. getting me all excited for my trip. the sutro baths are my favorite place to visit in america. not much there, but love knowing the grandness of what was once there. its cool being able to look out and see the tops of some of the shipwrecks at low tide. great set!

not sure the exact cause of fire. always had many rumors floating around how it started. the only fact I know is that it caught fire while it was in the process of being demo'd. one rumor is that it was started on purpose to collect insurance or cut down on demo costs. other rumors are that kids with fireworks started the fire, or that it was accidentally started from an electrical source.

here is a good website if anyone wants to learn more about it. fascinating place:
