| | Abandoned Section I-44 Tulsa < on 5/22/2008 2:39 PM >
| | | It was abandoned a year or so ago when ODOT built the new Creek Turnpike extension. Surd and I have known about it for some time, and finally decided to get a few shots. Perhaps not the most interesting abandonment around, but the road geeks will dig it. enjoy!

| | | I passed this along to the fine folks at misc.transport.road. Great photographs! I'm a self-professed "roadgeek" myself I used to have a highways photography web-site and had quite a few abandoned and roadways under construction on there, but it's long gone. | | | Roadgeekiness and exploring abandoned places... two interests that I thought I shared with nobody else on Earth. Then the Internet was born, and it turns out that not only are there other roadgeeks and urban exporers... but that there's an unusual level of overlap between them. I don't think today's teens could have survived in 1985, feeling like you're the only one in the world who likes what you like. And searching highway roadsides for discarded porn mags. Wait, did I say that out loud?

| | | Loosely related: http://www.usatoda...-14-highways_N.htm Says in 2012, Oklahoma City will demolish a section of I40, rebuild it elsewheres, and sink the new section of it like the 75 in Dallas. Drain enthusiasts such as myself ought to know what this could mean. [last edit 5/25/2008 5:02 PM by Mellon_Collie - edited 3 times]

Except now we no longer have to walk the roads to find it. ha. abandoned roads, you would think, would be the most ultra boring thing in existence. But I love em. I too used to think I was the only one. Abandoned railroads do it for me too. Guess that's no surprise to most though. [last edit 5/26/2008 1:38 PM by Raticus - edited 1 times]

| | | That line is still active. But the yard sure looks like it's almost dried up. Probably would be a fun place to look for date nails. I haven't been to Hughes Springs in several years. Not sure who owns that line, I'm thinking it's BNSF but I'm not 100% sure.
