| | Ever Find a Dead Body While Exploring or Blood? < on 5/21/2008 9:59 PM >
| | | When I was in junior high, my friends and I found a dead body in a drainage tunnel we were exploring. On that thread about "abandoned cars" it got me thinking. What if some of these abandoned cars belong to murder victims? Maybe everyone should start writing down VIN's or license plate numbers of cars you come across and we should see if they're on missing persons lists. Though I don't know of a way to run a VIN personally. Does this car belong to a murder victim?
You can do your hobby AND be a hero. Think about it. As a side discussion, has anybody ever come off with anything weird while exploring? Pools of blood? The smell of death? A baggy full of bloody clothing? Human remains? **EDIT** A friend of mine came across some gooey stuff, blood and a bunch of polaroid picture boxes while exploring in the Mojave. He reported it to the cops thinking he came across a bizarre murder scene. It turned out it was a death that took place, but the reason for the gooey stuff/polaroids was that the cops had already been out there and they just made a big mess. | | | I haven't, but my friend did. He found a human skull and we were gonna make it into a chalice. We thought it was from a science skeleton because it was found near a school, but then he noticed the fillings in the teeth of the skull so he reported it. Apparently it was from a homeless man who went missing 3 years prior.

| | | My friends brother was in in the woods in Upstate NY. Theres a supposed cult that uses the old military tunnels in the mountain for w/e. Well one day he was wandering the woods with his friend and they saw a shoe. one of them went to pick it up and there was a body attached to it. They called it in.

| | | No bodies, but we did find an old casket- like tub for preparing bodies for burial / cremation in the basement of an abandoned church. and here is the elevator in the same church for raising "full" caskets to the main hall for services.

| | | I thought you were kidding. If I was to find a body, I think I would quit UE for good for the fear of finding another one. In this province, a few days ago a woman was kidnapped in her house and her body was discovered a few days later in a close-by house. The house has been abandoned for 25 years. It happened in a remote village, so no chance an urban explorer would have been on site (otherwise he would have been the prime suspect anyway). But I had some thoughts about the possibility our jokes ("the smell is so awful, there must be a body") of suddenly becoming real. Not for me, thanks. | | | Just the other day I was out rural exploring, and came upon a house with a fairly big shed...I didn't notice it on the way up the drive, but on the way back down, as I passed the shed again, I smelled the distinct odor of something rotting coming out of the partially open door...I didn't look in, but I'm thinking of going back and checking into it...I'd want someone to find me if that was me in there, I guess...
I was thinking about how people seem to read the Bible a whole lot more as they get older; then it dawned on me - they're cramming for their final exam... |

I think it may have been discussed but I searched for "Dead Body" and didn't find anything in the subjects. Plus, it's an interesting topic regardless, look there are already 8 replies with some good stuff so far. I don't see why this thread shouldn't stay, but it's up to you guys, I'm not running this place.

| | | I've run into a few sleeping homeless people, who at first glance looked dead. Personally, I'd rather like to stumble across a body. While I'm certain it'd be a shocking experience, I think it'd make the trip memorable. To anyone who has: How did you react when you realized what it was?

That sounds like a cool story, but is "victim" an appropriate word to describe someone who killed them self?

| | | I was exploring overflow storage for a museum and found two one and a half skeletons, does that count? Oddly enough there was an coffin lying right in the middle of the room, but it was empty. The skeletons were in a large cardboard box. Opening the coffin was much more nerve-wracking then seeing the bones in the box for some reason. Fear of the unknown, I guess.

My guess would be a deer. They die all over the place. But I'd want someone to find me too, I guess. As long as it wasn't someone who would be scarred by it.
