Light painting isn't strictly limited to using color gels to light a scene. I paint in most of my night pictures, but rarely use color. I consider light painting the only possible means of taking a picture in a total dark situation where there is no ambient light, besides using a camera mounted flash. Consider some examples of light painting, where I used nothing but a bare flashlight:

So little ambient light it would have taken a 20 min exposure and never turned out this way.

Jeezus. What a shot and place!

Big fan of light painting, Silent Knight turned me onto it and has been a big help in assisting me in mastering it. Nice job on the pics!

A fellow explorer just turned me on to light painting, and it's cool to see how others have used the technique. Here's one of mine from a damp dark cellar:

Ah, Grasshoppah...when you can snatch this pebble maglite from my hand...you have all the wisdom you need ;-p

You can always tell when you're watching Canadian television - the actors in the show are the same ones doing the commercials.

This brings back memories.

An old whiteprint machine. I worked on a Star Revolute and a few automatic Brunings over the years in Toronto.

Nothin' like the smell of ammonia in the morning to clear the nostrils and get the day started.
