WR:

This strongly reminds me of a certain underground brick wall. You certainly do find yourself up against a doozie now and again, don't you? Best of luck.

It seemed like a good idea at the time...

I'm fucking enchanted, that's how.

And we're still working on the brick wall thing. It's turning out to be Mission Impossible.

But this vault can be done. I just can't read the damn numbers.

Use what you used last time you had a stubborn pain in the ass. vinegar and green food coloring ^^ oh wait...it didn't work then, either

looks like this might be fun to play with, wish I had access to the lock, but I'lll see what combinations I can possibly identify.

I still have that hat, btw. fucker.

I played around in PS this morning and this is what I can up with.

R 26 - 4
L 35 or 36 - 3
R 45 - 5?

For the first set it looks to me like the first number is 26 instead of 25, but it could be either.

This is what I got in PS for the 2nd set of numbers. I'm positive that the last number in the set, the number of turns, is 3 because one part of the 3 is visible in either of the pictures you took.

I was stuck on the last number in the last set. It resembles the 5 in the 45, but it could also be a 3 or 6 or 8.

I say good luck to you man.

good luck opening it. I really want to find a way of opening this safe in a location by me. its a big, old-school floor safe that just screams 'open me!'

probably nothing in it like you said, but it would be fun just for the hell of it

If someone has written the combination in such a visible location, do you expect anything to be inside of it?

I wonder if the combination would avail itself if an ultra-violet light were used?

I honestly have no idea. But the combination is so illegible (and apparently has been for so long) that I really doubt the current owners have ever been inside it, unless they have it written down somewhere else.

You know, depending on how old the safe is, if you can find any trademarks on it that indicate the company, my friend told me specific companies tend to use different codes before you could set them yourself.

For example: Ricardo Safe's never use the numbers 1 & 9

Good luck!

Hey WR.

You said it was etched into the wall right? Not written on?
I'm not sure how well this would work, but how about taking a rubbing of it?
A piece of paper a charcoal pencil, like they do with tombstones? If it is indeed etched in the wall, then what might be non visable to the naked eye might become eaisly visible in an rubbing?
Just a suggestion

Good luck.

Most people seem to agree the numbers run in series I.E: 25-35-45 Most safes come with a pre-installed 'factory' combo. Generally the default combo is something simple. If that is the case here, the safe is set on the factory combo, then it probably correct that the numbers run in series.

I'm going to try it just to be thorough (if we can't get it open when we go back), but I don't think it will work. It is scratched into the metal, but the metal is so covered with goopy black shit and corrosion that I don't believe it'll show up.

I think it's: 25-4 35-3 45-2 then left to the stopping point (which isn't considered a number). The "4 3 2" sequence is pretty standard of old 3 numbered combinations.

I'll take your word on the middle one since I can't read it at all, and that sequence certainly makes sense for a typical 3-wheel lock.

25-50-25 is a popular factory combo as are similar ones, 25-35-45 could just be something that someone picked since they had to set it to some combination, might as well pick one that's easy to remember until you need the safe to be secure again.

The way I'd guess you'd open this one is to turn right at least 4 times and stop on 25, then turn left and stop the third time you hit 35, then right and stop the second time you hit 45. Finally, turn left until the latch drops in, probably somewhere between 0 and 10 (my money is on 8, especially if it's an old Mosler records safe like I've seen all over the place).
