Much better, just need to work on sharpening your images a bit, but your framing and sense of balance is excellent.

I've noticed my images are a bit blurry, and I'm not totally sure why. Should I bump the DPI up some more or something? My typical process is to make a new 1024x768@100dpi in Photoshop, then drag the images to this window and resize there. I then save as JPEG at a compression of 8 (12 is max in Photoshop).

Now a few of the images I took during this trip were rotated slightly as the tripod I took wasn't the most stable one I have, but I figured going from 5MP to 1024x768 (800x600 when posted to Photobucket) would solve any blurry-ness...

Do you find they look better when viewed on your hard drive? Could be some quality is lost through photobucket.

Not really... Photobucket's usually pretty good at preserving the quality.

I like that last one. How'd you get it to "glow" like that?

Nice capture of the natural lighting in 1 and 2.

Both 2 and 3 look like they could be cropped into to 2 separate pictures each. they both have two lit focal points. I don't know which to look at.

You may want to consider cropping down 3 since there's a lot of empty space going on there. (Unless it's just my crappy work monitor that's too dark.)

That third one is pretty cool, cool texture. I don't think the images are as much blury, but maybe a tad washed out. Try playing w some of the filters, or sharpen tools in photoshop to see what you get.

You took those with a Point and Shoot? I am even more impressed now!
Good job.
But one question, unless you got a wicked deal on that camera, I am seeing is listed for $500.00 US. Why not just get a lower end SLR and spend the extra $100.00 for a Nikon D40 or something like that??

1 and 3 works fine for me, 2... I don't know why it doesn't hit so hard, I would probably see it from lower angle... Maybe, who knows (I don't).

Glow? There was a hole in the building so light was shining in to the left. To the right it was solid and quite dark as you can see from the other pics.

I think see what you're saying in 2 and 3... Personally I like having a little background showing on 3, but with 2, there was a skylight and a garrage door which is why it was so much brighter than the rest.

Last time I tried to photoshop people said the images were over-exposed. But then again I also took everything at f2.8 that time. Eh, I might play around with it later, or tweak the camera more when I go back.

Thanks a lot! But you still consider this one a point-and-shoot? I suppose I always think of those as the smallish cameras. As for why I got it, I found it for about $275 about a year ago. I do wish to upgrade to an SLR at some point, perhaps a D40...

hell man, go for film, cameras cheaper, and you can learn darkrooming if you so choose. id suggest starting with an old manual learn the trade, then move up to DSLR when your ready, and its financially feasable. Otherwise, your compositions good, its the quality that will get you. hope that helps!

I was talking to Pez recently about my old Minolta SLR. I was given the camera around 2000 and used it once during a vacation along with my old 640x480 digi cam :p I would like to get more practice with film... I'm not so sure about darkrooming (though I'd love to learn how...) but I do know I have the equipment for film shooting. My grandfather has quite a collection of lenses and all for his old SLR. I'm sure he'd loan them to me if I asked.

Your focus issue is probably caused by your camera's poor response to the low light conditions.

When resizing in photoshop simply go to Image> Image Size and resize there. Then "save as" It'll save you some steps.

Film is over. Unless you're shooting 4x5 or larger stay away. Any perceived $ savings will be lost in processing. Film doesn't have image preview.

*nods* the camera isn't the best in low light. However, I am using a tripod with a remote so it's not getting movement. Eh, I just need a digital SLR.

I took one of my pics and did a direct shrink, and another were I did my other method (helps me crop directly to 800x600) and both looked identical so I don't think it's how I'm saving. Eh, all in all I'm pleased with the output. Again, I should simply upgrade to a dSLR soon :p

And yes, film is out. But, it's nice to have the experience.
