| | | UEM's flashlights are pretty much all garrity. We've found them to be cheap, reliable, and, in the case of the newest addition to our collection, pretty bright, too.
Does anyone else love Garrity?
Here's my new light, it's like a little sun, and it heats up your hands if you're cold. =D
Oh, and it's rechargeable too. [last edit 2/17/2003 8:07 PM by uem-Tux - edited 0 times]

| | | I'm a sucker for maglites, but only for normal flashlights. I havent researched other forms of illumination like lantern-style or spotlights. The one posted above looks like a nice light. What are the specs on it? candelpower? burn time? weight? recharge time? price? My friend (Geek on the site) has a 2 million candelpower spotlight he paid $40 for at walmart. It doesn't burn for very long, but I think he charges it incorrectly. It has a built in battery and chargers for both line power and cigarette lighter power.

| | | What you're describing sounds a hell of a lot like what I have. 2 hours of burn for about 20 hours of charge. 1 million candle power.
I'm not sure what it actually weighs, but it is fairly heavy, I'm going to get a shoulder strap for it. Oh, and it was 35 bucks at Wal-Mart.
My normal light is a normal "big 6V battery" flashlight with a handle, and I have a 2AA Mag for basic stuff. [last edit 2/17/2003 8:49 PM by uem-Tux - edited 0 times]

| | | I, too, love maglites, but haven't done much research into lantern and spots... that one does look really nice... hrm... hey look! I'm a parrot! lol
I'm thinking of getting/making an led flashlight tho, because while having a nice spot like that (What is that, 1 million candlepower? thereabouts?) is mostly not necessary. I mean, how bright does one need a room to be?
Maglites serve my purposes well enough, except for the C cell battery usage, but the minimags work wonders.

| | | I find this "Dorcy Focusing Lamp" to be good value, although I'm not sure how durable it is when dropped.
It uses 4 D batteries which last quite long, and has an adjustable parabola, meaning that it can be used as a spotlight, or a lantern with a wide shine aspect (or anything in between). You adjust the bulb position to the parabola via a slider.
It has a rotating handle and can be set down and shone on the wall or ceiling.
You can pick it up at your Local Petro-Canada (I've also seen them at Home Depot). It should cost you around $10.00CDN.
Does anyone recommend miner-type headset flashlights when exploring?

These are SUPER SUPER SUPER bright. Will beat the shit out of any maglights you'll ever buy.
They are the most popular kind used by the cops and such..only thing they lack is size. Meaning, you can't beat the crap out of someone with these like you can with a mag-light

| | | Garrity is RHS' new form of lighting as well. We just bought one for the Geneva Steel project and it will hopefully come in very handy. I also carry around a mini-maglite for tiny lighting needs and those little raver lights are always a hoot, as long as you know who might see the lights.

| | | We use a pretty wide variety of lights in Wraiths. We've got some of the big garrity ones for underground, but since most of our missions are pretty light sensitive, we make far more use of our LED lights, especially red.

| | | I've got a 500,000cp spotlight with some kind of alkaline rechargeable batter. It will illuminate a drain as far as the eye can see but only lasts about 45 minutes betwen charges. I use it on short trips or when my other lights are dead.

| | | I love Streamlights...
My only objection is that their batteries are expensive and their lighting time is limited.
Except their "Stylus"...
This little widget is an LED-bulbed super-mini Penlight.
In "Arctic White" it gives about the same illumination as a standard 2D flashlight...
It can and will fit in your pocket. It uses (get this!) AAAA (quadruple A) Batteries. 3 of 'em
I've run several sets of batteries dead...but the bulb is a solid-state electronic part...almost never wears out.
I've also stumbled across an LED-powered flashlight at a couple of the Gun Shows I've frequented recently, that may be replacing my Mini-Mag on my hip. They have dual-intensity settings, a flash setting, and even when "off" you can still see a faint glow in complete darkness, so they're not as easy to lose. They are rubber armored and about 1 and a half times the size of a 9v battery. Think "Hand Phaser 1" from Startrek Original Series for an appropriate size comparison.
But I see that y'all are talking about Big Powerful Lights...
Are they waterproof too?

I see on a site that they make several versions, different colored housings and LEDs. Do you think they can be found for cheaper than US$13.95 like on that site? [last edit 3/11/2003 3:10 PM by MacGyver - edited 1 times]

| | | i STRONGLY recommend the miner style head lamp...this i have one that i always use, usually supplemented by a minimag or a standard skullkrusher mag depending on the locale. The main advantage is that it frees up your hands to do things like climb ladders and such...BTW for those mag fans i picked up a cool little POE, you where it on your belt and it holds your maglite. its called a Lite-Lok im sure it could easily be found via a google search.

| | | headlamps are great, except that if you're at a secure site, a light stuck to your head shining each way you look isn't exactly stealthy... with what we do, we would only be using a headlight for draining/tunnels, everywhere else it would be way to big a risk.

| | | I'm having a tough time deciding on a new light. Up until now I've been just using whatever I scrounge up before a mission, but now that I'm about to do some infiltration-type missions (coupled with a healthy dose of draining), I'm going to need something versatile, or cheap enough that I can by a few specialized lights. I saw a 2-pack of Garritys at Wal*Mart... waterproof, come with batteries, they float, one is pretty big, one is pretty small. A primary and backup. They have rubber grips, nice for draining. I also saw a nice LED... it came with several lenses too. I can't remember the brand, but it was called the "Rebel". Sonofabitch was silver though, so I would need to tape it up. It probably isn't waterproof either. I have a nice army light with red lenses, but I hate battery costs. Hmmm decisions decisions.
Wow talk about shooting the bull.
