Wow that's pretty cool. Is that outside light coming down the chimney in the last picture? That would make a great close-up.

This city is my jungle gym...Look at this big great world that we live in...There's lots of fun to be had on these streets...We can take a ride, just you and me...It's a jungle gym

HaudAccess: Man, that place is GREAT. I'd be willing to trade location tips, if you can give me more hints on how to get there. I'm close enough to Santa Clara to make a drive out there some time.

Best,

Yay, new ue sites. Quick look says something about
B* Road, Saratoga, but getting to this road seems difficult.

edit: rd name obscured to be in compliance.

I'm glad everyone liked the location. I want to preserve this place from omnipotent google; find "Hakone Gardens" (labeled as Hakone Park in google earth) this camp is 1.33 miles due south on the map, off a road that starts with the letter "B" as you drive up into the hills the street bisects the camp with most of the cool stuff on the right hand side. None of the buildings are visible fromm the road, so look for a brown metal gate and fence that with a sign that says "area closed to public until cleanup is complete, Santa Clara County" I wasn't bothered during my three hour stay but a patrolling lawman might wonder why there is a car parked near the gates so have your excuses ready. I have several more locations I will post in the near future.
cheers

I really wanted to spend more time there, I didn't get anywhere near the number of shots I wanted.

Camp *, founded in 1944, is a defunct Boy Scout camp in California. It was donated by Mr. and Mrs. R. R. S*, and named in memory of their son, Reginald Ross S*. The camp contains 144 acres (0.583 km2), and is located near Sanborn-Skyline County Park.

The camp had a pool, dining room, multipurpose building, flush toilets, shower building, meeting lodge and many campsites. B* Road, which was paved in the 1950s, divides the camp in two. One side served as a Cub Scout day camp, one of the largest in the United States, serving nearly 3000 Scouts each year.

Camp *'s last summer of operation was in 1988. The Santa Clara County Council already owned two other camps, and decided to sell Camp * to take advantage of rising land values. The camp was sold in 1989, shortly before several buildings were damaged in the Loma Prieta earthquake. The county has not demolished or developed the camp, and has no funds or apparent plans for the area.

**Note: The name of the camp and the road is witheld to protect the site...

There are a couple other places I'd like to try around there as well...

Great find. It would be cool to see some of the pics kicking around in Boy Scout scrapbooks from when this place was open.

I agree, but I found it difficult to track down any refferences to the camp. And the area boyscouts didn't really know much

They are pretty tight lipped when it comes to what the scouts post because of the predator crap. Can't blame them there are alot of perverts out there.

I actually went to this camp as a child!!! Its cool to see it again, yet a little sad to see it abandoned like this... Back when I went to it, it was a day camp for cub scouts, I have my mom digging through pictures to see what she can find so it might be a few days, but I will post up pics of Camp S****** For anyone that goes out there, there should still be a lot to see, the camp was absolutely massive and there is a huge lodge maybe about a mile or so from the main camp area. It could be difficult to find though and hard to say if its still standing after the earthquake, the camp is located pretty close to the epicenter of Loma Prieta earthquake of 89'. Also, I would say chance of being caught is pretty low by local officials, They mostly stay off the area of the road that it is located on... Wish I could go and explore it myself, but alas I'm in Nebraska now

hey Giantfan666 is the building off to the left of the picture the big lodge you were talking about? I never even saw this when I was on site, but everything is so overgrown it is probably just buried in the 7 foot brush.

Quite possibly... Keep in mind we're dealing w/ memories from close to 25 years ago!!! I do remember is kind of separated from the rest of the camp, If the trees around the area are Madrones, then you are in the right area.. (Madrones have the bark that looks like it is peeling off) Also the Big lodge is, or was visible from the road as you're driving in.. As it looks out over the ravine... I believe it was known as the Miwok Lodge and was used for ceremonies pertaining to the "order of the arrow", a special organization within BSA..

In your orignal post, the meeting lodge is actually the cafeteria, the main cabin I believe was the caretakers residence. And like I said, you can see the large lodge is visible from the road, but its easier to see if you're the passenger due to the winding roads, you don't really want to take your eyes off the road!
