Where do you draw the line?
< on 8/24/2006 5:37 AM >

I think most of us explore by the motto "leave nothing but footprints, take nothing but pictures" but how far do you find yourselves going in order to make an infiltration? Is it OK to kick open a door, tear down a boarded up window or even bust a window in order to get in? Luckily, I haven't had to do any of that but I was just wondering how you all handle it when faced with these kinds of situations. Any moral dilemmas?

That Depends, if there is no entrance and no fence i usually will try to get as close as i can.

I think really what it comes down to is the place.

Thats why you come here if you are not sure and ask. I would.

I dont think anyone wants you to risk your well being just to get an awesome location.

If there is no open entrance and I have to enter illegally i.e. knocking stuff down, lockpicking, etc. then I just abandon (lol) the pursuit of that location. Trespassing is one thing, breaking and entering is another entirely. I never take anything on my person except a camera and maybe a flashlight so I wouldn't be able to go any further anyway. But if the door is open than I have no qualms about entering.

BTW I think the main forum is better for this question than a region board.

I agree with most of the posts here. If I have to break something to get in then I'm not going. I'll climb up to a second story but I dont feel comfortable actively "breaking" into somewhere.

And I dont think that this is necessarily a bad place to post this question. I for one pretty much only read the regional board. Creedle might also have been trying to fins out the regional bias towards these things Or maybe I'm putting to much thought into this.....

there was some cheap ass lock on an otherwise wide open door at a loc I was at just the other day... i could have popped off the lock and check this BADASS place out but I'm not going to break shit and compound any trouble I might get into with cops...

I understand where you're coming from in the angle of incriminating yourself even more and playing into the cops' hands, but really if you need to get in then that's all that needs to be said. Besides, its an abandoned building for fuck's sake, as long as you're not hulk smashing through an entire side of a building who really gives a shit?

I *Might* consider picking the lock, but being what the building is and the land it's on and the people who own it.... ahh no fuck that I am not going to damage shit.

I think it really just depends on the situation and the location.

All good points. I've seen some lines crossed before that I wouldn't personally cross. I try to avoid those kinds of situations.

Anything that involves the breaking part of breaking and entering always makes me feel uneasy, especially if the site doesn't seem to be on the road to demolishment any time soon.

A little creative entrance always is a challenge though and usually yields the best sites. I suppose I've bent the rules once or twice, but I've never "broken" them.

even if it is going to be demolished, I dont like the idea of breaking something to gain entry.
If you have to explain yourself to a security guard, cop or a judge, its much better to say the door was open! Than to have to explain why you pried the door open with a crowbar.

Then you have to explain why you weren't wearing any pants while prying the door open with a crowbar.

I for one will only explore in my BDSM gear. I love the way panties feel against my package.
