That has to be about the funniest thing I've read all day, thank you Av.

We need said Aggressive Moderation here.

Look what happened with the Malt Plant. That was a direct result of not-so-aggressive moderation.

Besides, there's a LOT of morons on here that post nothing but useless filler.

No, the malt plant thing has nothing to do with this board at all. As I've already said, there was nothing revealing on this board before the incident.

I think it has a lot to do with this board and a lot to do with the fact that everyone treated it as a wide open place to kill time and brag about hitting up dozens and dozens of times or whatever silly thing it was. I've had dozens of e-mails asking if I was there on X date at X time and I've had stuff posted a couple of times in my guestbook to the same effect. People were being stupid there much as they are everywhere else. This kind of thing will forever be happening and there isn't a bloody thing in the world we can do about. Even as aggressive mods we can't stop stupid from happening. ;p

If it'd just been there and had a few people once every three weeks or something I doubt there would be as much attention paid. You really need to give this board more credit, Av, because I'd say a good half of those people were there because of something they read here or found a link to. That or someone from here took them there. It was The Place To Go in Toronto for several years now. However, there is no use crying over spilt milk. If it is in fact locked up that's really shit but there isn't anything you can do.

That's a bit naive. You're dangling the carrot.

Aggressive moderation is not always a bad thing but, as I am sure you are aware, you are going to have user backlash no matter what you do.

I have moderated many forums with many different styles. At least the maturity level of this forum appears to be much greather then many others. This should help make your job that much easier.

Good luck with your efforts, I wish you well

I'm not talking about the malt plant, I don't care about that. I'm talking about the DB and the forum, which I understand completely.

I think what he's saying...

The board and the rest of the site is a good idea - however - abit more discresion should probably be an order.

The Malt Plant used to be *THE* thing to UE in Toronto. Now (rather, recently), it's been a joke, requiring VERY little effort or skill to get into.

I guess it's no big secret (or harm) now, but up until recently all you had to do was squeeze through a very obvious hole in a fence, and through an even more obvious hole in a "wall" - both of which have been closed off and reinforced. I remember reading about back in the day when the only way in was via a make-shift rope ladder, and that's after hopping a barbed-wire fence.

It seems that lately the Malt Plant has been more of a UE "Tourist Attraction", if you will, rather than something that is actually "cool" to look around in.

Like Asher said, it's not a direct result of this board or the forums, but a very large number of people, I'm quite sure, found out about the Malt Plant, and anybody with even a scrap of intelligence could diseminate all the entrances just from what was pictured and written in various posts.

Did the Haloween thing have anything to do with it? I don't know. But broadcasting such a thing on a public board, well, I dunno.

My point is just this - The site doesn't tell people how to get in or what to do, but, then again, neither do the movies that cause kids to go on a shooting spree in their local High School...

Right now, I'm going to code a feature that AUTOMATICALLY sends a PM to the person when their post is deleted, giving them a nice little explanation plus whatever the mod types in for a "reason".

Could you make it quote the deleted post? Sometimes it's difficult to remember the specific sort of off-topicness I posted.
