| | Newish to UE, and looking for some places to hit around Atlanta. < on 3/15/2006 7:52 AM >
| | | I came upon this place a couple years ago, and ever since it's always been on my mind. I can't say I've done any hard core exploration, but I've explored a couple old buildings here and there over the years. Avoiding authorities and detection has always been a fascination of mine after all. Anyway a group of my buddies randomly expressed an interest to visit an old cabin reputed to be haunted on a boyscout camp I work at every summer. It was a thursday night and a storm was headed our way, not to mention it's an hour and a half drive away followed by about an hours worth of hiking to get in. Considering the lateness of the hour and the weather, it was a crazy proposal as it would have them poking through the wood to a rickety old house at 2 am in the morning with getting drenched through. The real trouble was that even though one of these friends had been there before (the two of us went ghost hunting there last summer), he didn't remember exactly how to get there. So my sense of adventure got the better of me and I agreed to go as the guide so to speak. After all, the camp has 2 rangers that live there all year long with their families and one happens to be a vietnam vet and the kind of guy who would investigate funny noises across the lake "just because" someone might be intruding on his camp. I really respect the guy, but how could I pass up the chance to slip under his nose? Besides, out of respect for him I wanted to be sure he didn't lose sleep chasing down a group of lost loudmouths in the middle of camp. So we loaded up and arrived at the camp in north GA at about 2 am. Fortunately by the time we got there the storm had passed over, so the trail out there was muddy but we didn't get wet. That got us arriving at the cabin around 3 am. I'd give you pics of the place, as it's pretty scenic, but alas I'm too poor for a digital camera. I am amused by the concept of urban exploration in the middle of the wilderness though. ^_- So the actual ghost hunt was a joke. When I did it last summer Bobby and I stayed there from dusk till dawn and quietly took in every sound and happening. These guys only stayed for an hour and talked the whole time. So I gave them a tour and we drank from the spring out back, then we headed back. No trouble from the rangers, and all in all a fun trip. The conclusion of this story brings me here though. That same friend of mine who sat with me all night last summer has expressed an interest and expanding our horizon. His interest in this is far more "supernatural" then my own, I'm thrilled by any chance to just sneak by someone. Fortunately both our thirsts can be sated by Urban Exploration, and so I told him I'd re-visit this site and try and find some good abandoned hospitals and mental institutions for us to explore. Naturally this lead me to the LBD, but sadly not being a full member yet I don't have full access. Most of the locales available to the public also happen to be demolished. So, I read that Atlanta has a pretty strong UE group, and I'd love to gather some interesting locales for me and my friend to visit. In return I'd be happy to add the aforementioned cabin to the LBD, and lead some of you others out to see it. It's not very big, but it's pretty old and comes with a pretty nifty hike through the woods. For you athletics types there is also a 60 foot climbing tower to trespass upon (if you're slick enough to get up 13 feet of bare wall). Funny thing is, I happen to be the "authorized supervision" the trespass signs on the tower speak of, but even I'd get in trouble for infiltrating it in the middle of the night. For you really ambitious types, there's a number of other buildings and things to infiltrate, but be warned: there's nothing abandoned about the camp(except that old cabin). It just doesn't get much use through out the year. It's definitely an excercise in silence and subtlety, and as I said I do have respect for the rangers there. They're good people, but then again so are we eh? So anyway, greetings! PM me if you're interested or have any hotspots for me. [last edit 3/15/2006 8:05 AM by Jarvis - edited 1 times]

| | | Hey Jarvis hows it going? Don't be too surprised if you catch flak for asking for locations to explore. At least you have a trade, cool. Peace, and good luck. N.

| | | It's excellent that you have persued this hobby of exploring abandonments, but asking for locations so that you can explore is a big no-no, especially around Atlanta where you will catch a lot of flak for it. Your best bet is to meet up with some Atlanta folks, they are really nice people and won't bite your head off. Best of luck

Oh, fine -there goes our street cred... Seriously, though, PM some of the more active posters -we'll likely arrange a non-UE meet-up followed by subsequent inclusion in various ops & mini-ops.

ps - watch out for that Simian dude.

| | | I guess the fear of vandals, thieves, and cops is greater than I thought. Or at least that's why I assume it's taboo to ask for locations. Very well, request recended and all that. I don't want to be raped after all... Honestly though, I'm a fairly anti-social guy. So while I'm not against meeting you guys a couple times to gain trust and the like, I'm not keen on going to some strangers house and drinking beer, and most of the fun in exploring someplace I've never been in is exploring it with a friend who has also never been there. I wouldn't be opposed to a night run up to the camp, but before I make assumptions again I'll put the ball in your court. How is this usually done? Edit: well alright then... I'll fire some PMs off. | | | well. typical trend is a meetup in a public place with a good chunk of atlanta's UE crew. After that, we get all paranoid about you for a while. But yeah. None of us bite.

| | | We meet at a local midtown bar. If you're not a flaming dipshit, i wont have to assrape you. SC found that out the hard way. I I mean REAL hard. We have atlanta practically mapped out but love to have newcomers with virgin asses for us to exploit. wow, i'm getting creepy here.
Anyhoo, in all seriousness meet with us if you have the time. if not the best way to find locations to explore is to drive around and explore the ghetto areas of atlanta. you'll find plenty of stuff.
I hate all of you |

Does this mean I have to enable the rainbow flag icon in my profile now?
Seriously, though, drive through the ghetto and you'll find some great stuff. This principle applies to just about every city.

Wow, remind me to stock up on KY and provide plenty of drinks for DJ and the rest of the 'gang' whenever I come down. I thought our rituals and initiations were something to keep under the rug, but you guys take the cake. No wonder AbandonedSC's tagline reads: "S(ue) for life."

| | | Maybe 30 or 40 years ago Underground was explorable. Now it's just a mall/nightclub complex that the City of Atlanta has been desperately trying (and failing) to get tourists to come to for years. Hey Atlanta government: Tourists don't WANT an upscale shopping, dining, dancing experience in the heart of downtown. And neither do locals. Stop trying to manufacture a happening experience. That NEVER works. Anyway, rant off.
