I found a few on an abandoned farm in Pennsylvania. Mostly filled with plant life now.

The pic is a bit blurry, but there are out behind a motor inn I went to recently:

Looks like it's a Mercury Capri on the left but the one on the right...maybe a Valiant wagon? I'll get a closer look next time I show up around there...and take some better shots, hopefully. The buildings on the far left of the picture are the neighbors, and the property they (the cars) are on is owned by the constable.

Car on the left is an '81-ish Dodge Omni 024, (My family had one of those car's when I was little, there aren't many around) the car on the right is an early 70s Pinto Wagon...lol

This is my first post, and I have not become a full-enough member yet to create a page for this, so only a couple of pictures and a little history for now. I took these pictures about 18 years ago at a junkyard in Sterling Heights, Michigan, which used to receive all of the detritus from GM's Tech Center in Warren, including show cars. These are ( 3 ) show cars from the GM Motorama in 1955 - 1956. The sedan is the LaSalle. The remains of the coupe are the LaSalle II. The green car is the Chevrolet Biscayne. All were later sold to a show car collector named Joe Bortz, who removed them and is restoring the LaSalle II roadster using parts from the sedan. All 3 were non-running, non-drivable with dummy engines and instruments. The sedan was the most complete, right down to its cast aluminum wheels, special tires (the whitewall was down the middle of the tread instead of on the sidewall) and plexiglass windshield (it was inside the car). The dummy engine was supposed to represent an overhead-cam V-6, which was supposed to be a real working engine but they didn't finish development in time. The cars were supposed to have been destroyed (as all others were) but for some reason were not. I found them in the 70's, and finally snuck a camera in photograph them in the mid 80's. The rest of the old cars seen in the pictures were removed crushed long ago, so don't even think about going to look for them - the yard has only newer cars now.

if you ever get back in there, see if this car is in there: it's an 81 or 82 Turbo Citation... you won't miss it as it was Yellow. John Heinricy had said in an email that it was most likely still out in that yard.

nice pics by the way!

Damn. That looks like someone spent a lot of time and money restoring it, only to get stolen. You said the motor and trans are gone? Looks like someone took the rear end out of it too.

If I were you, I'd get the VIN, and poke around a couple of Dodge forums on the web. See if you can find anyone who got a Duster stolen recently. Or maybe even give the local cops a call. Normally I wouldn't bother, but it looks like someone put a lot of work into that--not to mention I bet they didn't have theft insurance on a car like that.

I'd look into that as well.

When I went to the Concord Resort, there was a pretty nice VW Vanagon camper in one of the buildings, Texas Plates, door open, it was full of possessions, food in the fridge, camping gear, maps, everything. The sticker had expired 4 years before, it had a flat tire, and the radio was gone. So it had to have been there at least a few years. It was just really weird. I took an old receipt out of it with the owner's name and I was going to try and contact them, but never got around to it. Having had a vehicle stolen I know how shitty it is. Car thieves are pure shit, they should be killed and their remains used as fuel to heat buildings. Bastards.

My buddy and I were back here a couple of months ago as we had started to make an annual trip here about 6 years ago. Those of you that remember this place will weep...they had been open since I believe the 1920's and their motto was "we've never crushed a car."
Anyway boy did they renounce their credo!
They have crushed everything, over 3000 cars dating back to the invention of the automobile are gone. There are a few holdouts around the edges back into the treeline that maybe they didn't crush for sentimental reasons or perhaps they were harder to get at but 99.8% of his cars are history.

Treasure your photo's because this was an end of an era.

Hell.

Outstanding photos of the GM Motorama cars...

It's my understanding Joe Bortz has sold off his collection of cars.

Dunno if it's true or not.

Plymouth Duster. I own one. Mine is a '73. That one has to be '73-76 based off the peak on the hood's lead edge and side marker locations/style.

That color, Plum Crazy if a Dodge, or In-Violet on a Plymouth, was not offered by '73 so it either *MIGHT* have the 999 Special order paint code, or it could have just been repainted before ending up in a missile silo. That hoodscoop was an aftermarket item sold through "Direct Connection" Chrysler's factory performance parts brand in the 70's. It became "Mopar Performance" later '91 or before.

Can you get back in there? Want to grab me the vin# and get some detail shots of the fender tag on the inner fender for me to decode. Plate #'s and last year reg. if any?

The motor could be a slant 6 or 318, possibly a 340 ('73) or 360 ('74 on) Or maybe (With that hood scoop) someone swapped in a big block 383 or 440 for a drag car project?

That's amazing. I'd almost drive up just to see that one location. Looks like they haven't moved in ages. Second place I've seen with a clean VW Westfalia in it...hehe

not stolen!, owned by the person who owns the silo. eng, trans and the rear end that got it to this location have been removed and used to power the silo elevator. and that drivetrain is not original. this car was used in the heavy class at a local dragstrip, with a diff drivetrain. it was turning high 7's in the 1/4. and it was not restored it is original.

This is the only car pic I got. I did come across a 57 Bel Air at another location where the garage had collapsed onto the car.

It is a Cool find. Cool Car, Cool pic. So please do not take what I am about to say the wrong way. I'm not flaming, bashing or arguing with YOU...Just the Duster's owner and what he told you.

High 7's in the Quarter? I call BS. 7 second drag cars do NOT wear stock sheetmetal or have stock leaf springs like this one clearly does. There is ONE Mopar INFAMOUS in our circles called "The Haze" ('71 or '72 Charger) LOOSELY based on a street car that turns 7 second quarters in this day and age and only looks 1/4 as stock and original as that old Duster does. "The Haze" also has a parachute and a Lenco. "The Haze" was also built several years back utilizing modern technology. Thousands of car guys worldwide knew what "The Haze" was shortly after two guys in Sacramento built her as a big $ street racer. As much of a "Ringer" as was possible at those speeds.

If this Duster were truly that basass in its glory days, when someone posted this pic on Moparts.com I guarantee dozens of people would have said "I KNOW that car" since these are guys anal enough to argue tooth and nail about whether or not 2 1970 Charger Daytona prototypes still exist or were even built in the first place.

Plenty of total whackos who came of age in the 60's and 70's are more than happy to tell anyone who'll listen about their rare "383 Hemi with a special prototype NASCAR Heads." they had back in the day, or whatever. The 60's and 70's were WAY too good to these people, and they likely never had the intelligence to properly build a serious drag car, or built an engine and suspension capable of such feats in the first place. I've been monkeying with these cars for 14 years now and I couldn't make one do 7's in the 1/4.

Maybe it ran high 7's in the 8th mile back then....But who can't? Maybe what he meant to say is it was a 318 car and one night racing it he grenaded its original 7-1/4 rear end. I'd believe that. Done it a few times myself picking on 5.0 Mustangs when I was 17.

The owner is flat out lying about the car's former prowess is all I am saying. I still love the pic and want all the info off of that car! Any chance of getting more pics of the car and it's info? Does the owner want to sell the shell now that he has the drivetrain to run his elevator?
