I frequently donate money to websites that I like. For example, I sent $15 to the website that hosted "True Porn Clerk Stories", an excellent read chronicling the life of a video store clerk (go look it up).

Sorry for the off-topic reply, but that is an excellent read. My best friend started working at a porn store because his neighbor got him a job, and well, it only gets worse. You start developing a co-dependent relationship with hand sanitizer.
Back on topic, I donate to websites if I use them regularly or they provide content I wouldn't normally be able to access. I think being able to donate $5 a month out of paypal is pretty convenient, and it's a reasonable amount to donate on a regular basis. If I didn't like the content or the practices, I just wouldn't donate; it's voluntary.

What I see it as is more like your tax dollars, people have a right to know how much tax money is collected and how it's spent.
Charities are accountable for donation money.
I just like the idea of people knowing how much actually came in, and what uses it's put to.

I personally dont want to see a list of all those who donated, we all give what we can afford to give and its that simple. If someone donates $5 and thats all they can give do they really want to be put on a list with someone who donated $500. I think the little trophy that we get for donating is more then enough.
Also as Av said he has paid out of his pocket many a time. So what if he makes 3 times the hosting fee's one month im sure he still is no where near breaking even over the life of this site. Av has given us something that money could not buy with this site, so lets just be grateful for that.
