The abandoned Domtar Canada Paper Mill. Built in 1912, the oldest in Canada!

| | | | was built as a textile mill by dominion textile there are some amazing pictures of this plant in its early days in the malette family collection on display in the summer at patate malette on st louis in beauharnois, in the 90s domtar wanted to shut it down, the employees bought it out and continued to make the paper for the royal canadian mint, then the contract was given to a german firm. you used to be able to tell what paper they were making by the color of the st louis river next door, the stone house out front was relocated when the water treatment facilities were built. an even better site is the abandonned Elkem plant next door. i was in here last year for the liquidation sale, got some filing cabinets. been telling you people about this place for months  the area all around the beauharnois canal is littered with sites like this

the malette collection has pictures of all the plants in the area too including kilgour. the area adjacent to this plant, as recently as the 1950s was densly residential, mostly summer cottages the elkem plant (now empty) took a lot of those properties

| | | | on a passé toute une soirée a l'explorer et on a pas eu le temps de tout voir, disons que c'est plus petit que Dow. Le sous-sol est malade, il l'on tout simplement dynamité pour faire les fondations, fack c juste des gros morceaux de roch, vraiment beau. De plus, ya aucun graffiti et quand même compliqué d'y entrer donc tant mieux.
En parlant de graffiti, c vraiment dégeulasse les ptits counne qui font des graffiti laid à Alstom, depuis 1 mois, yen a de plus en plus a toute les semaines, ils laissent leur galons de peinture partout, ça fait très chier, faudrais pas que j'ai rencontre sur place !

| | | | la pancarte est enlever depuis des annees, sur le cote sud de la 132 on voit un entrepot de plastique qui etait a elkem, impossible a visiter , je lai explorer en 1994. mais lautre cote de la rue, en arriere des tas de papier de turcal il y a une immense building. ledifice de bureau de elkem en brique brun a 15 pied de la 132 est encore chauffer. tu peut pas manquer elkem, met toi debout sur le gros drapeau du quebec au centrale b'nois regarde vers lest et tu verra un building HUGE avec 2 barges stationner dans leau
