Yeah, I vote for Nostra too, I think he would make a more honnest moderator than all of us. He speaks both french and english, He knows alot and overall I simply think he would do a goob job.

Most ironic, My second choice for moderator status would be Spek.

Tux used to be a good moderator, but that's before he had the 'Seigneur' self-title and before he tought he could temp-ban members who disagreed with him.

My opinion.

Yeah, I find Nosrta a good choice because he used to post a lot in the Northeast fourm when like Samauri would bring something up he knew about.

Kowalski reopened the thread, so the checks and balances feature worked.

Seicer,

-A moderator closed 2 different threads on the subject;
-a moderator insulted members;
-E-mails were sent to Av and to other concerned members, without any real answer to it other then "(mod) has the right to his opinions";
-A conflict has been brewing for over a year;
-A moderator totally lost any respect from the members of the forum he's moderating;
-Members are not happy and I needed to get up, come to another forum and post this to get some sort of reaction from another mod.

This is no checks and balances. This is last resort.

I'm not talking about the entire situation, I was meaning that the thread was locked, a discussion about it (in this thread) ensued, and the thread was reopened. That's checks and balances.

Now for the rest of it, that's another story... and I'm not disagreeing with you on this, since a moderator stepped out of line. I can't say with 100% certaintly on the situation since I haven't read all the other posts, and I am not up to babblefishing every Quebec post, so I'll just reply to the parts that I do know about

There's a search feature, and it cheeses everyone off when people ignore it.

In this case a specific incident has brought the debate very close to the Quebec exploration community, and a debate/discussion on the subject both generally and in this specific instance is definitely in order for that region. There's nothing wrong with having discussions like these from time to time; the whole UTFSF imbroglio mainly comes up as a result of users posting threads asking questions about specific locations or specific equipment that could easily have been answered had they just run a search on the subject.

In fact, once there's been time to better assess what has happened, I hope that Montreal explorers will summarize the incident and subsequent debate in a new thread in UE:Main, because it's an interesting and unfortunate thing that may have happened, and it would be a pity if it doesn't go on to inform future continental/global considerations about media and UE solely because most of the discussion occurred in French. That thread shouldn't be started now, mind you, but in a week or two once the dust has settled and no one is speaking out of anger or incompletely considered speculation.

In those posts/forums/threads that I have read, it does seem that everyone has their right to their own opinion...except when you say something against one of the mod's favorites. It happened me to when I commented on someone's post. The next person who thanked me for the post also had his comment deleted. To me, it wasn't worth the effort to question the mod as to why it happened. If that mod wanted to get his shorts in a bunch because of my opinion/comment, so be it. It was in english, everyone could read it...no one else seemed to have a problem with it expect one mod.

Just getting back from a mini vacation, I really don't know what happened since I don't read/write/speak french. Nor do I attempt to look up what is being 'said'... I'm sure there are people here that are under the age that is considered to be an adult, & even if they aren't, shouldn't we all be acting like adults? Not some little kids who whine because Jimmy called Bobby a bad name or that Jane doesn't like what Susie just said...

Just my opinion, but there's always going to be people who don't agree with what someone's says or don't agree with someone's opinions, but that's life. Respect other's opinions & they will (hopefully) respect yours.

Again, just my opinion... (ok, I'm waiting for this to be deleted now...I've had my say)

For instance, the Don Valley Brickworks thread was just locked because a discussion that was still quite fresh and hadn't degenerated into flames appearantly irked the opposition of a moderator.

Just to let you know - the DVBW thread was locked because it was no longer a discussion about the DVBW, and instead had degenerated into a discussion about shitting in abandonments. There's already a thread about that here...

http://www.uer.ca/...d=25209&currpage=1

...(started by you, seicer). It was off topic, no longer an Ontario-centric discussion, and I decided it was time to be locked up.

Oops, then I stand corrected. I was hoping that it would turn back into a discussion about non-fecal matter, but that didn't happen apparently.

And could you let let me send you a PM? You deleted one of my posts which I agree with based on the circumstance, and I don't have any hard feelings towards you, I think?

This is the first I've heard of this issue, so please don't try to tell me that you tried to contact me and that this is the "last resort".

A lot would be helped if you used the name of the moderator and not just "a moderator". I assume you are talking about tux, since he would appear to be the one who locked the thread. Tux is the french mod in charge of the forum because he speaks french, lives in montreal, and has a much better grasp on the UE politics in quebec than I do.

Once again, I cannot state my opinion on this issue because I do not speak french. I suggest you who do speak french resolve the issue amongst yourselves. If you fail to resolve the issue, I will close the french-speaking forum.

Since we are name-dropping, yes, I'm talking about Tux. I don't like making it personal because it usually enables the discussions to get nasty, ugly and personal and that's not what I wanted here. I wanted a general clarification about how come we can't post our opinions if those opinions are different from the ones of the mods, or should I say TUX.

And I'd love to see Tux speak french. I certainly can't remember anything of him in french. I doubt very much he speak french. Maybe he can say toaster-hello-bye. But speaking french enough to fully follow discussions in french? If he did, why would have he locked that thread???????????

We solved it Av. We want you to nominate Nostra-youppi as a moderator of the Qc. forum and other mods (bilingual) will keep an eye on the forum.

And Av, if this is the first time you hear about this, then, you should check your PM account cause it's been hacked! Here's a reminder :

maZe to Avatar-X - Tux attitude ? - 11/4/2005 7:21 PM

Hi Av,

Sorry to bother you, I'm sure you've got tons of stuff to do and I hate to PM you but I've got some issues with Tux attitude in a thread about SPEK being on TV. Tux posted this :

"all you idiots can think about are the locations that you all visit over and over again. ... and none of the locations we mentionned in those articles were closed prematurely as a result.

USE SOME COMMON SENSE!!!

I am sick of seeing you people go insane over every little thing."

... He then deleted his own comment. And then commented on deleting his comment :

I did delete my comment, it's one of my moderator powers, call it an abuse if you want, but I only left it up for a few minutes before realizing that I don't really care about any of the issues being raised in this thread. (...) So, to anyone in this thread who's bitching about SPEK's piece, shut up your face and explore. This'll be my last post on the matter."

I understand he's got some bad days, we all do. But I think this attitude from a "Seigneur" (GOD) mod is a bit over the top.

thing is, I would'nt have made a big fuss over this Av, but quite honestly, I was surprised to got PMs and messages on my MSN from an interesting number of people that were also complaining about Tux attitude in this case and in other cases so I thought you should at least be aware of this.

but this being said. I realize I'm just venting my frustration and yet, I'm not offering you any solution. So I don't know what to do... Just want to make you aware I guess. UEM is great but Tux and his gang are not the Gods of Montreal exploration...

Anyway. UER is great - keep up the good work!

Thanks

It's all the same, it's about Tux attitude. This was about another thread that TUX locked but it's always the same problem.

Anyway. Av, I appreciate your attention. I've made my point. Thank you. Good night. Merry Christmas. I still hope Nostra can become a Moderator, I think this would greatly help the many frustrated members.

I am terribly calm and patient for the situation, Tux may have not been that patient, I can easily understand how you can write what you think and erase it afterward: Tux did what he was supposed to, erase and give his explanation. Most of the other leave very offensive post like the one from Vala saying to me: "Explorateur de mon cul"
translation: "Explorer of my ass."

Sorry, I don't explore ass. If my 4D Maglight can't fit in I won't enter the location.

As for if somebody should take over Tux's moderator job in Qc, Maze you are coming back over and longer on different subjects.

Everybody can moderate himself.

I'm one of the oldest member of this forum, and I always tried to act as civil as possible.

If by oldest, you mean age, aren't you 19 ? Or if by oldest, you mean, been a member here amongst the longest, then yes, you've been around here longer than most.

As for always being civil as possible, I can recall you clearly not being very civil at all when you were making up bogus claims of an exploration and insulting me and my abilities all at the same time. Remember stealing pics from a website and making grande claims about infiltrating the tunnel ? But that's not good enough, you had to use your fake exploration to try to say you were oh soooo much better than I was at exploring ?

http://www.uer.ca/...urrpage=1&pp#post0

Now, just like then, if you decide to make claims, you should at least make them acurate or someone will call you on it. Maybe if you behaved the way you claim to, you'd be taken more seriously when it counts for you.

I certainly don't blame Tux for telling everyone to keep it on subject and not attack each other over things in there. I probably wouldn't have locked it, because I really do dislike locking threads unless they seem wholly pointless, but you also have to realize every moderator at some point will hit the point where you've pushed him or her too far. It builds up over time, and it's quite possible to make an error in judgement. Checks and balances do work, but jesus people it's not always instant, it can take a little time as not every mod is on at every moment you want them to be.

Try a little bit of patience when expecting mods to solve a problem, regardless of who or what caused it.
