Well they better start doing something with it now, or the damn sand is going to engulf it. Hell, its already got half the fence.

It has been the way it is now for a good while.

This isn't boot camp and you are not a ninja. But you sure look like an idiot in that outfit.

Depending on the winds/weather that sand can build VERY high up against the side of the building.

Well, there really was no threat to the building when I went. The other building, seemingly connected to it, is a bit different story.

THat other building is a demo job. It is not like can't be moved though. There might however be some issues with the reused of the building due to the fact that it is in a nature preserve...

I would imagine that asbestos would be a large issue as well.

in one of what old places?

In *any* old places on the outer banks. 'Twas kind of tongue in cheek really.

Cheers

I'm going down to the OBX on Saturday and will definitely stop at the lifeguard station on Pea Island. I've probably driven right by it the past few years. Thanks to all for the info. Any other suggestions in the Corolla/Duck/Hatteras/Ocracoke area?

The Outer Banks for UE...heh, there are some places other than the old coast guard station. I live in Salvo and honestly I'd be a great deal more worried about the Park Service than the Police as they handle most of the trespassing for Coast Guard issues.

A while back the whalehead club was more abandoned than it is now. Corolla is in the money now so everything got fixed up.

I had nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion.

Haha...yeah, I was down there about two weeks ago. Was wondering what it was.

I got a picture of the emblem on the 'tower' part..and its a U.S. Coast Guard symbol. Thought that was pretty cool.

I believe the building in question is the old Coast Guard lifesaving station on the south side of Oregon Inlet, just off the south end of the Bonner Bridge.

Up around Corolla, it's gotten very yuppie-fied, with a LOT of private security. The Whalehead Club is restored and very much in use.
