They were still there the last time I was there...I do know that they're keeping buildings 22 and 12 for historical purposes, but I really don't want the Powerhouse to be gone. I have many memories there. And I was sad to see the School go...a buddy of mine and myself sat on the roof of the School at 1:00 in the morning and ate noodles while staring at the sky once. I'll have to go down there soon and check it out.

Check around back. It only appears that there is two buildings left, there's two more around back. I'm not sure which.

At least since I started working over there.
I drove by a couple weeks ago with some friends. We'd always look forward to those hot spring days or early fall days to go visit the psych and just walk the grounds. The buildings were always colder on the inside. It's sad to see one of our adolescent past times destroyed.

It would be at least a 40minute drive for me. I heard its a cool place, I wanted to see it and photograph it myself.  This sucks.
Are there any other Mental hospitals around here (Toronto).

| | | | i went down to check it out easter weekend and it's basically gone.one cottage (#22 i believe) and the power station (#32) are still standing.i don't know about number 12 though.maybe i'll check it out this weekend.i didn't go right up to the cottage,so i Don't know how well it's boarded up.but the power station has fresh plywood up and seemed pretty secure.
i would say any of the buildings are worth going to see.
if..you can get in.

| | | | The two buildings remaining inside the psych lot are tightly boarded up I'm pretty sure, the power station seemed well boarded up except that the two main doors on the side near are completely taken off and it's wide open, it looks like they're starting to gut it. They've put up caution tape around hazardous places and such. I think it will be going soon so I suggest you hurry to check it out.
I'll miss you Whitby Psych =(

| | | | Last time I was there at New Years, four buildings where standing. Power Plant is definately a highlight worth exploring. Loved climbing to the top of the machinery with all the catwalks. Very hazardous but thats half the fun isn't it? If this place has not been demolished, you must make the trip, and quickly. Hours of entertainment.

As of May 17 @ 2:00pm the powerhouse building was 2/3 torn down. Everything south of the stack has been demolished. The building facing the sub-division is still standing, the interior has been freshly stuccoed. (??) The south facing building off of the main driveway is still there too.

I've seen a lot of photos of the place, and I always wanted to check it out. Not long after I learned of its existence I learned it was already in the process of being demolished.
I can certainly relate to everyone else here, I live very close to the Ontario Regional Center, in Woodstock. Growing up, us kids would always head over there and explore. My only regret is that I was too 'chicken' back then (Probably still am... some of the buildings were damn creepy), and my exploration of them was minimal. I never got photos, either.
Only two buildings left, and of course, they're the most boring ones. I've got to get over there and document them for the last time. New homes are less than 250-ish meters away. Oh well, photos are photos, memories are forever.
I love the place, and it tears me apart that it's gone.
