My twin and I and some friends did a volunteer clean-up at the psych in March 2001 with the Ontario Ghost Seekers and Nanoman happened to show up.
If you get into contact with this guy, he'll tell you everything about the psych - from the time it was built until it's demolition, I'm sure. He knows everything off the top of his head.
But anyway, he told us this story once about him visiting the place with this girl and they found a christmas tree with toys and shoes underneath and jars of brain matter, etc. Who really knows. His stories made everything a lot more interesting, I'll tell you that much.

Ya, i definitely remember the piano, but i can't remember where i saw it. lol
In the summer of 2000 i went there with my boyfriend at the time and in one of the really small cabins that had the metal machinery we found loads of papers, and maps of the Whitby Psych grounds and maps for what was in each building (all the rooms, and where the tunnels were in each building, etc.) It was really awesome, i'm going to try to talk to him or his brother and ask him if i can take some pictures of it to show you guys, i know he wont give them up. lol
When i saw the, what it looked like to be, fetus in the jar was in 1999 when school was still on because i remember skipping class to go and show someone. I used to see some pretty fucked up shit there. I didn't think i'd miss that place as much as i'm missing it right now.

I have been in the kitchen that Nanoman has been into and it's not real blood, but seeing it all over the walls and in a big pile on the floor does make it really creepy. It actually looks like red spray paint with some water in it or something liquidy. I think Nanoman went to my school.....

Having a fetus in a jar makes little sence...but if it was a piece of human flesh that kinda looked like one, maybe? We know many films were shot at the psych, so maybe it was a prop? Hey Jobbles, remember the coffin props that used to be laying around?
I found medical files laying around in the morgue lab, but apparently W5 did an expose of WHitby when back when there was even more personal records laying around and they did a garbage sweep barage in the late 90s afterwards.

I'm also drawn to this thread because my first and only UE trips(10) have been to the Psych. My brother and I first went there around the winter of 04-05. We snuck between some houses around 12:30am and just walked right up to Building 19(Big building with the Morgue). Really it was quite ominous at night, while it's snowing. Very creepy. We loved it The first time I walked downstairs(all the upstairs entrances were boarded) down the cold, damp, dark stairs it freaked me out. But we kept going. I brought a digi camera and my brother had a keychain light. That's it, a little blue keychain light. It wasn't the brightest thing in the world to do but what can I say So were in the hallway at the bottom of the stairs. It stretched on forever it seemed, but not really. First thing we come upon is an elevator door half open and the floor was completely frozen. The whole setting was filling me with dread. I kept looking over my shoulder. I kept my ears cocked for the smallest of noises.
We continue past the elevator and what do we come upon? The Morgue! You could tell it wasn't like it would have been back in the day. There were beer cans and bottles everywhere. Graffiti on the walls and it was just generally destroyed but I've never been more scared in all my life. And from that point I knew I was hooked to the Psych. My brother and I went back at least 5-6 times. I brought my other brother, my wife, anyone who would appreciate going. Since that night I've been in almost every building on the site. I have many pictures, as well as my friend who has some video as well
It's a shame a beautiful place like that could just be torn down. For what? More houses?
I guess I'm rambling here... just want to say I'm a new fan of UE and it all started with Building 19
Ps. A friend of mine first came up with the idea to go to the Whitby Psych. after watching "Session 9". A movie based around an old abandoned Psychiatric Hospital called Danvers in Boston. This is a real place and very creepy. It is also in the process of being torn down. If you haven't heard of the place or seen the movie, check them both out. You won't be sorry.

i still cant believe they are tearing that place down. it sucks no one wants to preserve historic buildings anymore. They tried to raisee money to save it ...but i guess efforts werent enough

Also, everything was indeed left at the psych after being closed in 1996.
Confidential medical files were strewn about, and as a result, caused a lot of controversy surrounding the advisory board...
Clean up crews were sent later on to remove most of the patient casebooks.

I think i remember some props laying around, i can't remember if it was coffin props or something else.
The stuff i found laying around there right after it closed, within the next two years, was unbelievable. That place was so close to my house and just so wicked to visit all the time. It was never boring. I had fun scaring the shit out of my friends back in the day when we were there too. Ha, it will be missed.

I didn't read this anywhere but the 4 buildings that were surrounded by a black fence (one being the power plant) I thought were not involved with the demo. I was in the area and stopped by to see the current state of the grounds. Buildings 33 and 34 the laundry and workshop are gone!!! They were behind the power plant to the west and appear to have been knocked down just last week. The plant and the building to the south have large bins beside them for garbage. I think the building to the south is next but not really sure.
I know at one point a plan was out for approval in renovate the plant into offices of some sort but I never heard if the plan was approved or not.
Has anyone heard anything?

I don't know what they plan on doing with the four buildings that are left (including the power house), but everything else is rubble. I don't know what their plans are for the power house either, because there's a large hole in the back wall now.
