| | | Our privacy policy forbids us from reading any private messages you send to someone. On a technical level, these are the facts: - EMail PMs (sent with the grey icon) are not logged or stored anywhere, so these are 100% private. - UER PMs (yellow icon) are stored in a database. There is no mechanism for anyone besides myself view these, as they are simply raw data in the database. That is, admins don't have a "See PMs" tool or anything. This means that the only person who could potentially read them is me. Now, I don't do this. I've done it in the past, but that was wrong, and I won't do it again. Our privacy policy forbids it. The only exception is if all mods agree that someone's PMs need to be examined, for example to confirm if they are abusing UER, in preperation for a ban. On a more general level: Nothing you do on the internet is truly private. I do my best to ensure UER remains as private as possible, but some things are out of my control. You should realize this fact, and simply be careful about what you say online. -av

I can potentially read the e-mail and personal data of all persons in the university (and send it on their behalf). Doing this will get me fired though. And the being fired would be the least of my concerns. Tijmen

That kind of disrespect is not needed. Be thankful you're not being treated here, like you would for making that kind of statement on other boards I'm a member on, where you'd be getting warned or banned for *attacking the admin team*...

That's an opinion, and if having one is now illegal on this board, then you have serious issues that pertain not to this board. I've seen mods go haywire and become button happy within the past month - he apologized after realizing his mistake and that is very commendable. Something similar happened to me just before that that I had to use several methods of contact before it was even mentioned in the forums. Then there is the whole issue of your trollish posts against certain users you disagree with. Or what if you are called "nazi moderators" and cry foul over THAT but then blow off one mod that has the profile title "nazi moderator"? Either way, my post was a generalization. It's possible for people to _read_ them. Hell, I have a PM system on my site that is used, and it is "secure." All it takes is a dedicated person to hack in and read them, or for an admin or a mod to read them. But if you are going to cry wolf and lose sleep over it, then that's fine with me also. That was not my intention. [last edit 10/3/2005 5:11 PM by seicer - edited 1 times]

Your opinions have also included jumping to conclusions after you did something wrong and tried to blame the mods for something as well.

Here, it is only possible for one person to have any access to the PM's, and that's AV. If you've decided you can't trust him, don't use a PM here.

All it takes is a dedicated person to hack into anything, so if you're going to cry wolf over that, i'm not going to lose any sleep over it...
