One thing I hate about army boots is that they're so big. When I still wore them, I sometimes found myself having trouble with even the easiest climbable fences. So I don't use them anymore and wear a pear of old DC's. I just watch where I'm walking, haven't had anything through my shoes in a year.

ive been known to wear combat boots on occasion... usually when i feel the need to dress in fatigues. but as of late ive also just been wearing my skate-shoes... light, much easier to climb things, and i feel way more stealthy.

blah blah.

I've got a pair of US infantry boots I got at a thrift store for only $12. They're pretty old and look like they've seen a bit of action, but they're really sturdy. They're also remarkably light, compared to the motorcycle boots I usually wear.

I use a pair of 8" Magnum Phantom-lites (side-zip). I've had them for about a year now and they rock. My only problem with them has been the zippers, namely, they broke and I had to glue them shut to keep the boot useable. Don't get side-zips, sure they may seem convenient, and they are, but they'll break, and it'll piss you off.

I had a problem with my Bates, the velco tab on the top of the boot just doesn't stick anymore, so when I crouch and crap the zipper slowly starts sliding down.. I also broke the lil zipper handle tab thing.. so as a fix I threaded paracord through the zipper and use that to zip/unzip (which works better anyways) and to keep the boots zipped I normally just tape the top of my boots when I know I am doing something that I really don't wanna have to deal with unzipped boots..
Strangely my buddy has gone through a few pairs of the exact same boots I have and he hasn't had that kind of problem yet, although I wear mine everyday...

I'm reading a lot about boots being too big. That's total rot.

I use old issue Canadian Forces boots (high, solid, and waterproof) or my Vans oldschools. depends on where i'm going, and the weather. most of the time i just go with the Vans-they're a lot quieter. I just make sure im careful where i step. havent had any problems with nails yet...

Chuck Taylors and DCs work alright too.

I used to have a pair of standard issue SAS stealth boots. But when I grew out of them I just switched to normal ankle-high hiking boots

For outrunning cops, yeah. But durability and sheer performance when say... stepping in mud or on nails, boots are the best option.

three different pairs, depending on the mission.

most of the time, i wear a pair or Merrell Explorer 3 hiking boots. comfy, grippy, and steel-toed.

if i'm doing something quick, just my Chucks or Vans.

but if i'm in a drain, nothing beats a pair of Vietnam-era USAF issue jungle combat boots.

do you know how to waltz?

Nothing beats a pair of big old army boots found in the dumpster of a still active barracks. (This was a tiny barracks in the suburbs mostly used for the occasional reserves get-together and army cadets under 18, but I usually forget to mention that)

No. Danners are lace to toe, even on the USMC special versions.

These boots must be good because of light weight, but I like my work boots better.

Hmm, what brand are they then? The ones I got issued are Bates, and although they're comfortable and all, I don't think I'd ever use them for UE - mine squeak too much. Maybe I just need a new pair.
