I think a good pair of tactical boots is a great UE tool. A good tactical boot will be comftorable and protect your feet. You want something you can run quietly and fast in... something good for climbing anything from rock to chain-link and you want something waterproof.

You got a picture i wanna see how they look, if your skateing(skateboarding) with them.

About three years old at this point. Skateboarding, hiking, gym class, whatever.
The leather was torn away a bit on the right toes from ollies, but I don't have a picture of that.
They needed insoles after three years, and the original laces came apart. Other than that I loved them.
Then a cat pissed on them, and they were retired.

I sense a battle of the worn out tact boots !
Here's my old six inch cut Mags ( a half can of Kiwi brought them back for a week or so). Three hours of water exposure and crumbled concrete left them cracked beyond repair.
These I had worn daily and the sole was so thin you could feel a pebble so they were throwaways anyway.

The side zip is a great thing; allows you to wear a high boot without the cumbersome "unlacing"
I was thinking about buying a second set of these for winter, the goretex, steel toed insulated version, a little heavier but it keeps the old dogs warm and dry at least.

...I wouldn't suggest wearing these in the snow, they were aweful...

Yes, and you'll find that most canadian boots are crappy in the snow. I don't knwo why but they seem to always be. Funny we live where there's lots of snow and ice and we can't have a boot that won't slip on it.

One time I went sledding while wearing a pair. I spent most of the night going down the hill on my face. It was a short night.

I wear black Mack waterproof steel-toes for normal jaunts. For all who have chilled toes: wear thick socks! Snowmobile socks or anything wool will keep you warm no matter what's on your feet.

My running shoes. Anything else is too heavy. I may get wet, but I've never stepped on any nails.

Chuck Taylors or boots. The Chucks are so nice to wear but suck when you step on a nail at a local state school.

Actually I am pretty sure you can get inserts for boots with the steel plate on them.. could be worth while to look into

Accually Mark, GOOD combat boots(or tactical boots for those that get freaked out about combat) are very quiet. They are designed in a way that Spec-Ops teams (ie: SEALs, Force Recon, Rangers, ect...) which are noted for their stealth, can be stealthy. I myself own tabi and will agree that they are quieter, but they don't have much padding on the inside sole to protect your feet while walking/running on hard ground which eventually leads to shin splints. (I speak from experience) Also, tabi have no protection from what you might step on such as nails or sharp rocks. On the plus side, they make climbing fences much easier, but climbing rope can be painful.

I prefer to wear tabi anytime it's not really muddy/wet. For climbing and stealth, they can't really be beat. I've never noticed them to hurt climbing rope though, for going across things like gravel or any other uneven or *pokey* ground, they aren't that fun since they have such soft soles that you feel it a lot. They also don't have any support whatsoever. I put in a good sports insole because it increases your performance over gravel greatly when you don't feel every rock poking into your foot...

It requires wisdom to understand wisdom: the music is nothing if the audience is deaf.

I like to bring my Gortex combats warm as hell, I will post pic later, but the only bad thing about them is that they have no grip in the snow.

All around ninja'ing and UE shoe for me, lack the easily seen white part that is on normal Chucks. Use these and a big pair of waterproof winter boots that are ultra-toasty. Hopefully I can get a pair of tabi soon, and these goretex combat boots I saw at a surplus store.

I wear some steel toe Wolverine boots. Pretty nice, comfortable except the steel toe is a bit abrasive. Anyone have any ideas for that? I always end up with two blisters.

A lot of good suggestions here! So I was wondering, could anyone suggest a good pair of fully waterproof/uber boots for draining? I did do a search on "uber boots" and only found one post. Hoping to find something that would go to just below the knees, light weight, easy to move around in, that won't leak when you're standing in one to two feet of water, and have good traction for slimey/slippery areas. I was thinking it might be time to get a little more serious about the drains since I've found a bunch of them lately. Any suggestions in this area would be greatly appreciated! Thanx!

You mean the work boots? The combat boots don't have steel-toes.

Want to bet Sir? I own 4 pair two are the same kind. Old military steel toe combat boots, new Bates combat boots(x2), new desert combat boots.

pronopunk, how heavy are yours, are old ones were heavy but they have bates and they are light as hell.

I was debating getting shanked ones so I didnt hurt my feet on nails but not sure due to heavy ass boots.
