very odd finding at abandonment near my house

Ok. so theres an abandoned grain elevator right close to my house. my friends and i normally go there about once a week to chill up on the roof about 8 stories up. access to this building is fairly easy and the cops dont really care if we are in there although there are "no tresspassing" signs posted. anyways. yesterday we decided to go there and chill for a while. before we went in to the building we noticed a large round silver magnet on one of the metal doors of the building. it took alot of effort but i pulled it off and tossed it into the river. then i look up and the building and see another one of these silver magnets on one of the lower story windows. then i see anther and then another and then i relise they are all over the place inside the building and out on all the windows. im concerned these may be some sort of motion detector or something else like that. I cant think of any other reason that they would be there. anyways i would like to know what you guys think they could be

All I can ask is why did you throw the magnet into the river?

I don't think anyone's gonna waste their time putting motion detectors, on an old run down building. If your going exploring, just use common sense, and don't vandalize.

No shit, somebody ought to throw you in the river. Why would you take something that somebody just put up on THEIR building and throw it away? I'd have slightly more respect for you if you took it home and kept it and only one, leave some for the rest. But that only goes for shit like old beer cans and the like. I really don't care so much when people steal junk from my impound, because it's just junk and there will always be a certain amount of that going on anyway. But if someone broke in and stole my tools and I found out who it was........ they wouldn't like it. This whole hobby is one of those gray areas and you just crossed out of that by a mile. Do us a favor, get your head out of your ass, or throw all the shit you stole in a big bag and jump in the river, and don't let go until somebody comes for you.

jeez. ITS A FUCKING MAGNET FOR GODS SAKE. and the particuler one that i took wasnt even in the building it was outside on the rail near the river i really had no idea it had anything to do with the buiding at all until i saw all the other ones. its not like im going in to the building and wrecking everything. in fact i actually have a great deal of respect for abandondments and such. probably more than you. and if you really think i crossed over the gray area by a mile. i think your then one who needs to take there head out off there ass and get thrown into the river, asshole

You really want to make things easier for yourself, first you need to post like less of a 12 year old. If you do something stupid, keep it under your hat. I had a guy working for me and we had to tell him on a daily basis to keep his mouth shut because he was so stupid. That way people wouldn't figure it out as quick. He didn't last long. Second, get out in the shit and figure things out for yourself. Asking questions about how to get into a drain, it's a drain, just do it. Third if you really want to find some of the cool hidden and less accessable stuff, don't offend the people who have been there and done that. But since I'm an asshole and you ain't got a rope or climbing gear, I know one more place you'll never see......

Almost forgot, why the hell would you post this in a forum where every cop and maybe even your teacher can see? Not to mention little kids.

Ok, didn't I give you some advice at some point saying NOT to post stupid or incriminating shit, and act like an decently intelligent human being? It really goes a long way here.

How about next time you see something that doesn't belong to you LEAVE IT ALONE! Maybe I should come to your house and toss your stereo in the river, then post on a public forum that i broke into your property and destroyed something of yours, then ask what it was I destroyed.

Please, just start using common sense both while exploring and posting.

Scuzey for being off topic but I am curious about this magnetic thingy. Could they be big ass reflectors for something or markers for demolition? 5meodmt, could you PM me and give a little clued to the grain building you are talking about. Or at least which one of the twins it is in? Pointless to add but I will add anyways- Watch what you post. Virtual walls have virtual ears.

If they were in deed motion detectors, it must have only activated when it felt itself motioning towards the river.

In my experience I've only ever come across two "motion detectors".
one: the ever piss-you-off PIR.
two: the humble sensor light attached to a siren.
And neither have ever been attached using magnets, without a visible power supply or even within easy arms reach.

I'd say they are more likely something to do with surveying perhaps. But that is a complete and utter guess. I really do have no idea what exactly it is you're referring to. Any chance of a pic?

btw, I really like that saying Long_Drop:
"Virtual walls have virtual ears."
Would I be stupid to ask whether you just made that up?

You would not think so, but my failed exploration and subsequent running from the authorities proved otherwise.

I just want to say that I don't consider 5meodmt's action to be that severe to warrant all the flaming. Everyone starts off not knowing what kind of community this is. If we push people away on the forums and come off as assholes to them, then you aren't really helping them out are you? He threw a small magnet he found on the outside of a building which apparently has many several more inside. I'd probably have kept it or picked it up and messed around with it and sat it down later instead of chucking it in the river, but that's me, not him. He may be a complete tool, those people do pop up on here from time to time, then again he may be a genuinely interested explorer hoping to meet others like him. You can't make a accurate assumption of someone because they ask where a popular drain is, or because their screen name is based off of a psychoactive substance. So in honor of good diplomacy, 5meodmt, I will give you a chance, maybe we could meet up sometime and chat or possibly explore. I prefer to meet someone and get to know them a little more than a handful of posts on a internet forum before I go making judgements on their character. You can PM me if you are interested in meeting up.

Today, I drove over to the place that I thought you were talking about. I was going to take a picture of one of those "things" so I could post it on here (you wanted someone to identify them). I couldn't find any! Maybe you were talking about somewhere else. I tried.
