hello. i have been a member for a few months now, but never have posted. i think i've been nervous of message boards. but anyways i am around the saratoga region and i just wanted to make my presence known. i have only actually explored a few abandoned places in the area, but i'm looking for more. anyone got any ideas? thanks a bunch.

I'd suggest heading to Amsterdam and checking out the Coleco warehouse and some of the other abandoned structures there. It's been my experience that people don't seem to mind if you're there. (I wouldn't recommend signaling your presence there, though.) Still, it's a pretty good payoff for not too much risk

And, as always, follow good etiquette and take-only-photographs-leave-only-footprints. If you cause my favorite locations to get boarded up, I will kill you.

There's a pretty good contingent of upstanding UE'rs in Eastern NY, so you should have no problem meeting up with people at some point.

Well it all depends on how good looking she is of cours... Whoops was the keyboard on? Ahem!

Sorry, yes indeed there is a fine collection of freaks up here. Welcome aboard.
The permanent people (geographically anyway) are me, Mat(eventually), Samurai, Agent Skelly, Pathwalker , Anasazi, Homestead, Skylark 98, and I think still Drie (who's very close to you).

Transient; Duffgirl and INA (who live downstate), FiddlerJones, and about four or five college students I've never met.

Somewhat counts (Utica resident); Ericam.

In addition at least five to ten residents I've never met who's status I'm unsure of but they are there. I can't remember all the names. One guy Slippery killa is from Clifton Park. The name scares me.

Reasonably close are the Hudson valley folks (all) and all by himself is Nine millimeter in Vermont!

That about sums it up!
If you want to go meet a bunch of idiots read the "Bum Fest 2005 " thread in Main. This is in Rochester but a bunch of people will be there. We can arrange a caravan perhaps.

Living in Saratoga, I'm surprised you haven't seen this http://www.uer.ca/locations/show.asp?locid=20242 a place whose history confounded us for a year or so.
It's also got a thread in this category with about 12000 page views.
There's a radar station in 'Toga, and some other goodies in the immediate area.
I'm working on other stuff all the time, most take a while to morph into a full on exploration, but the researching makes the end result more satisfying. The mountains are full of interesting things.

Once again welcome to the soap opera which is UER, laughter is good for the soul.

Your friendly neighborhood 'Dukes.

hey guys! thanks so much for the welcome!

DUKES:i actually have been to the saratoga homestead, just never inside it. i went in the day. the building is very beautiful. however, this was when i was like 15! my mom actually drove me there! she's always been so supportive. i have posted pictures in the troy section for forest park cemetary..but now I cannot find Troy listed in the database. its very strange.

i absolutely love amsterdam (sp?). i actually just drove through there the other day. thanks for the advice MATC on the factories there.

i really want to go in abandoned houses..my first exploration was of an abandoned home in my town (unfortunately my film got exposed ) i think im fascinated in what people choose to leave behind. any information on easy access abandoned homes?

MatC: also i know exactly what you mean when you say about having places be boarded up. the first house i explored..well word got out of it and a lot of kids went there and trashed it. i used to visit the home every few months and i cant ever go back again. people have stolen things and ruined it. it made me really upset..so i respect you and everyone on here who respects and appreciated abandoned places. and don't worry i'll be careful!

woah, long post..but thanks for the replies!

You would like the adirondack abandonments if you are digging old houses; Vermont contributes one old Dimocks' hideout)
And indie, I've never been to the stead at night either; read the stories; quite entertaining; I got soaked but it was solid entertainment.

Due to the new level system, you aren't able to see locations unless you're a "trusted" level 3 member of UER. Basically that just means that someone on UER can vouch for you as an explorer who generally follows a good set of ethics, and who isn't a property owner, law-enforcement officer, raver, pyromaniac, etc. looking to use the LDB for nefarious purposes. So, that's all the more reason to meet up with some locals - so you can explore with them and they'll recommend you for level 3. (You can also start getting your name out by posting in threads, so that people will begin to see what kind of person you are.)

For much more information than you ever wanted to know on this issue, look here.

Hope this helps, and I'll look forward to meeting you someday. (Hey, UER is the only place you can legitimately tell someone that you'd like to meet them in a dark alley somewhere!)

Nah, it's probably just that nobody from the boards (or at least not enough level 3 people) has met you to know if you're a psychotic killer or a decent upstanding guy.

... you're not a psychotic killer, right?

Sorry Brother, I lumped you in with the "names I can't remember" I remembered Glens Falls, but couldn't remember the name; it's easier when your name is simpler, and I was too lazy to look it up.
As far as knowing the area 100 percent, forget it; I've found that unless you travel by a location as part of a commute, or it's popular enough with the local teens, or if the history is blatant in your community, you may be five miles away and never find it.
I recently stumbled upon two great places just be accidental driving; one in VT (Dimocks hideout) and one 10 miles from me (Dimock's summer home).

Nice shot; IR? Where is the cemetery? I stumbled on a cool one with about five stones on a dirt road near the tongue mountain range; maintained but not quite, and covered with wildflowers.

As far as houses go, they are plentiful, and many are quite interesting.

haha Its only a name Dukes!

I know I havent met anyone from the boards yet as I really havent gotten a chance to go on a real UE with other members, but dont let the name fool ya. Im a pretty nice guy, just with some different opinions than most others. The name Slippery Killa comes from my alias in my rap group The 515 Crazy Click, my full rap name being Soap Tha Slippery Killa. My real name is Don though. Call me Killa, Soap, Don, doesnt matter to me, once ya'll get to know me you'll know I just love hanging out and chilling with people and having a good time.
