Pros/Cons Of Masked Exploring.

I was thinking recently about what somebody told me about my face being in pictures I post publically while being in places I don't belong..and the idea of Halloween Masks came to my mind. I know they would be real restrictive visually and breathign wise..but what other pros/cons would be there? Even if you jsut used them while getting a picture taken?

jsut rambling thoughts...

I think there are benifits and downsides. If your caught with a mask in hand the cops may go ape shit. However you never know when you might pass by a camera thats on. Thus preventing you from being nailed. Interesting thought.

If you're worried about showing your face in your own photos, it's easy enough to alter the photo before posting it (as most people do). Even if all you have on your computer is MS-Paint, you can use it to blur/bar/erase/replace with a smiley, etc.

If you're worried about passing by security cameras it might be wise to wear a hat or hooded sweatshirt or something that obscures your face. Anything too obvious (ski mask, haloween mask) is going to look really suspicious if anyone happens to be watching the camera.

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

Respirator and a hat! Not only does it cover your face almost entirely, but it keeps out nasty stuff from your lungs, and keeps your hair clean =D

good point but there are some places that I wouldnt want to go with a resperator just because that maybe more obvious then nothing at all.

Indeed, since all you have to do is have a respirator in your possession in Minnee and you're automatically a terrorist...

...Perfect to keep your hair nice and clean, for those of us worrying about getting our hair-do's messed up. ;)

No mask for me. I learned from the crazy shoplifting gypsies at my stores that when there is a camera, you put your hand up next to your face and walk your ass on by. Or pull your hood down and walk by, etc...

Really, I generally try not to find myself lingering in the presence of security cameras, anyway. You know. Getting caught is just not my style.

Masks?

Con: You look like an idiot.
Con: You look VERY guilty.
Pro: ....not a thing.

The best approach to security cameras is to just nonchalantly walk on by. Plain and simple.

Clown makeup would be better than a mask.

I am not going for jsut the fact of security cameras. I am also saying for the purpose of posed pics that are sometime taken as well. Photo editing is no problem, but a group shot with masks would work as well.

Not all masks look like frankenstein, or john the 6 eyed, green faced cyclops (hahaha) but soem look like presidents, old people, etc. It is just an idea that doesnt come up very much and seems like it could be helpful, as well as pretty fun.

A mask looks a bit lame. Better just alter the image with computer.

I think that some mosaic would be the best. A coloured bar or another image pasted in front of the face would draw attention from the original image:

True, I prefer the mosaic approach. However I would definitely make the block size larger than that, because you still look pretty damn identifiable.

Am I the only one who thinks that hiding your face (either through a mask or photoshop) seems a little bit, uh.. silly? I understand that trespassing is a chargeable offense (blah, blah, blah), but I can't imagine anyone going out of their way to press charges after seeing pictures of some kid rummaging through an abandoned site. This is assuming someone could be arsed enough to go out and find these pictures in the first place. I'm pretty certain cops have more important things to attend to, you know?

Has anyone here ever been busted because of a picture that reveals their identity? It's one thing to be worried about getting caught WHILE trespassing, but unless a break and enter was committed or something of importance was stolen, it seems kind of silly to be worried about this sort of stuff AFTER the deed's been done. I understand that hiding your face gives things a certain level of, uh.. cooleness, but I really don't think that anyone involved with the law actually gives a shit about this sort of thing.

I don't do abandoned sites, as I find them extremely boring...so yes, it is kind of important to mask identity.

Has anyone here ever been busted because of a picture that reveals their identity?

My former university's police checked out every picture on my old website that had a person in it after they heard about our steam tunnel adventures. They could've easily picked me up - I still have no idea why they didn't.

See also: WRabbit, who was convicted of trespass after stumbling upon a certain location and posting photos that didn't even have ANYBODY in them.

Yes, actually.

A friend of mine got issued a ban notice by security of a certain site here, ONLY because of his web-presence. They'd never caught him trespassing at their location, only had pictures they found of him in connection to his website.

So yes, they do give a shit.

Yes, but they were origonally caught by a criminal complaint. The website just added to the fun.

"Why would you post incriminating evidence of yourselves on the Internet?" I believe was the question that the Friend of the Court asked them.

Good question.

One other beneficial time. At least in my area, where there is abundant foliage, at some sites that have very active security, some sort of mask that blocks the light reflecting from your skin is very beneficial. Being camouflaged is useless if when security shines their spotlights over you and your face lights up like a beacon...
