Locations in Fairfax, VA or surrounding areas?

Hey all. I will be visiting Fairfax and DC in mid-late June with a few friends. Seeing as we are all from Cali, we're looking for a good explore while we're holed up in Fairfax. Does anyone know of good locations around the area? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated thanks guys!

There's stuff in DC to explore? Everything I've ever found, which isn't much, was locked up tighter than a nun or rapidly redeveloped.

If you know where to look, yes.

There is 1 abandoned property in Fairfax County worth visiting.
It's in the vicinity of Laurel Hill Golf Club.
Beyond that ... I am stumped.
The cost of real estate in FFX pretty much guarantees that nothing is abandoned.
Ditto Loudoun ... maybe a farmhouse or two on the bleeding edge of new development but that's it.
DC has ... off the top of my head?
4 abandoned hospitals and a few other neat places. All are very high risk, either in a bad neighborhood OR on a .Gov facility with .Gov police.
There are ... 6 abandoned asylums/sanitariums in an 45 minute radius; 3 of them are absurdly accessible.

Also ...
I dated a nun once.

Was she a nun at the time you dated her?

If that's the one I'm thinking of, isn't it being renovated, and what's left is really tricky to get into?

It's kind of a 3-fer.
One part has on-site security.
One part is now an arts center, with 1 or 2 remaining things to see.
One part is used by all the local police agencies as a shoot house.

Hi everyone...this is my first post here in our regional forum, my intro is on the rookie section...

"One part is used by all the local police agencies as a shoot house."

In response to DevilC, I would just like to contribute that to my understanding, it is actually used by fire fighters rather than police for fire/rescue training (so no shooting was going on) and that for those interested, it is definitely a feasible and worthwhile explore in my opinion.

Unfortunately, I won't have a lot of free time to drive around or search for locations...

If it's what I'm thinking it is, I'm going this coming Friday on a guided tour before it's completely redeveloped.

It's the same place, and I'll be on that tour as well.

Cops use it too ...
Was just there last month for work - we use it as a shoot-house too.
;)
Look for a parade of CVPIs, Suburbans, and Yukons.

Oh ...
I LOVE the awkward feeling people out at events like this, trying to figure out who is who.
So ... do you like to visit OTHER abandoned places? Nudge. Wink.
