Some serious formations down in this one. Didn't get particularly good photos of those though. Have to go back with a better camera and tripod.

This place has some serious photographic potential. Tear it up.

I'm not sure how to understand how posting a 6 paragraph rant keeps things from continuing in other parts of the forum...

Might just be me.

@41n 93w, Did you ever get that recorded file up of the water flowing? I was interested to hear what it sounded like after you recorded it with that gizmo that night in the drains.

words and stuff

You seemed to have mistaken my good natured teasing for drama, I apologize for that. I'm a bit of jokester, sometimes(maybe most of the time) my joking attitude and tone doesn't come off quite right. I'm sure rescueme is a swell guy, but I saw an opportunity for a joke and wanted to take it. My apologies to anyone and everyone who thought it was mean spirited or drama inducing.

41n 93w, I admire your fortitude. I am not a drain-type person, and seeing your photos has reinforced that resolve. While I know I would never care to see it for myself, I'm unsure if I find those formations fascinating or horrifying.

I find them both fascinating AND a bit horrifying.

I guess it is interesting to me the different way entropy is expressed in storm drains from other kinds of UE sites. Rather than the poignancy of human absence as a site that has fallen into disuse decays, the drains are these mega-structures built literally under our feet that were not intended for us in the first place. Instead, they quietly perform their function directing nature's flows. Nature, however, sometimes has other ideas.

(And, yes, it isn't just "nature." But it is actually a lot cleaner down there than one may think.)

I dunno. To each her/his own.

(Call me crazy, but I have actually come to really like the sweet, musty smell of drains.)

Pic 4 reminds me of the cities of the underworld LA episode where they went into the old subway station and showed where the tunnels used to be and were bricked up.

In regards to the old Subway system they just had a tour that I missed back in April I talked to the girl who shot these photos and apparently the place that set up the tour "would like to do another" so definitely keeping my eyes peeled.

Had a strange day today.... went walking in this creek

So I could get to this tunnel

BUT IT HAD THIS FUCKING HEAVY ASS GATE!!!

It looked like no one had been inside for years...

It doesn't look like it but I probably could have climbed over the gate. I didn't feel like cracking my skull open without a friend to video tape it though

over all it sucked. The End

So...did you ever find some?

surprisingly I did find one nearby that runs underneath a high school, but the problem was that it never opened up enough to be able to stand up in comfortably. There was of course really bad graffiti and spiders and a dead raccoon. The exit led into a creek bed which was too deep to walk thru without hip waders and since it was the middle of the night I turned back. did I find anything interesting? Not really. Was it worth the time and effort...possibly in the dry season if I were to go back and follow the creek bed to the freeway and beyond.

Hey my name is Mandy, would any one be willing to meet up and talk with me or take me to some storm drains or tunnels, I've been mostly every where in Minnesota but I'm lost in California and haven't found anything or anyone to meet up with yet. Send me an email if your willing to meet up and chat

ROFLMAO

I figure if anyone likes drains, they can easily be converted to liking mineshafts. Haven't been wrong so far!

I totally forgot about the New Member's Thread, I haven't posted in there in months, I'll have to get back to that.

I'm hoping to revive a truly great thread, so I'm posting some draining pictures here.

My brother and I found this RCB tunnel somewhere in the greater Los Angeles area; it's a part of a storm drain system that I frequent.

Here's the entrance, a water-slide that's very slippery and somewhat difficult to climb.

Looking down the slide from the top...

Looking onward, the light from a manhole can be seen in the distance.

Looking up at one of several manholes...

Random locks on one of the rungs...

And some minor formations...

Further in the RCB gets smaller and a second path (sidepipe) is visible.

We stopped at this junction to do some light painting with sparklers.

Lastly, here's a picture of me on the way out.

Thanks for looking and I hope to see more explores from the LA draining community soon!

Nice pictures Austtie!

It's good to see that people are still following up on this stuff.

I know Ethan and Sir G. Kumquats have been trudging about in wet places underground quite a bit.

Haven't seen much of the LA underground scene lately, nice to have the update.

I've actually been doing some draining myself, but it was 2000 miles away, so not really in LA.

Also, was going through the attic and found an inflatable boat that I COMPLETELY forgot that I had! Looking forward to doing some drain boating!
