Exhaust Fluid

Old farmer asks me today for "exhaust fluid"
i instantly think of our thread last week with muffler bearings, VW Beetle water pumps etc.....
Swear he was just testing me

Sure as shit, 2011 Ford Diesel have an exhaust fluid. There's a small jug next to the fuel filler neck. Google and friends tells me its some sort of Urea that gets sprayed on the exhaust gases and helps clean what comes out of the ass end. I called Ford...they stock it but wouldn't tell me anything about it

Anyone come across this yet?

Yeah it's urea fluid or some crap like that. Ammonia based or something. All diesels will be running it within the next couple of years.

Scam, scam, scam.

Tree huggers get pissy because diesel has visible emissions, even though it's substantially cleaner than gasoline.

My diesel VW gets better mileage, and has lower environmental impact than a Prius.

Yeah they suck too we have a lot of the new emissions standard buses here at work they re-route so much carbon and exhaust gas back through the intake it is amazing they have any power at all. I had on 09' with 27K mi. on it and it ended up back at Cummins with the grid heater and intake carbonized shut. It wouldn't go over 20mph.

And the newer diesel trucks will actually shut down or limit out at 5 mph if you let it run out of DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) They won't completely shut down a school bus for safety reasons but it's a joke. 90% of the road side rescues that I went on this year where 09' and 10' model year vehicles. They've made new diesels so complicated and unreliable its sad. This new standard with the fluid will only make it worse.

I've heard about Exhaust Fluid; its an interesting concept. I know its being used because of changes in US, Canadian and European diesel emissions standards.

Honestly, I think its just another fluid you have to check on your car now. Cars already have too many fluids!

... and what arrives this morning.... a shipment of DEF lol
Apparently I ordered it at some point and had no fuckin clue what it was.

Pretty soon you're going to need a science degree and a degree in electrical engineering to fix new cars

That would be an expensive habit LOL
I ordered it under an assortment update.... which happens regularly when new stuff gets added in to my product lines.
