Weekend antics

This past weekend was pretty great.
Saturday was bright and sunny and only a little bit cold. Our friend Brett had the day off and wanted to hang out, but Matt and I wanted to do some exploring. We decided on going to Jamestown, Rhode Island. Brett agreed to that.
After almost being screwed into having to pay a toll to go somewhere we didn't want to (I'm not a very good/observant driver), we headed down to Fort Wetherill (I'm probably spelling that wrong). Matt's parents used to take him and his siblings there a lot when they were kids. Matt wanted to take some pictures of the places as they look now, compared to how they were 10+ years ago.
We spent upwards of two hours checking everything out, we had a really great time. We left after some stupid kids came along shooting paintballs.

We are welcome here

little entrances like this led into a series of long, tight tunnels that really went nowhere.

my trip down one tunnel ends here when the water gets too high... plus I was alone, it was dark and Im a pussy.

pretty big

tracks along every ceiling. Dunno what for. I think Matt told me but I wasn't listening.

Beautiful view from the top

We left and searched for Fort Getty, which turned out to be very small and full of thorns. We didnt stay long. Brett treated us to chinese in downtown Jamestown and we decided to call it a day. Just as I feared we got screwed into going over the toll bridge into Newport. Since we were already there, already paid two bucks to BE there, we decided to check out Fort Getty. That turned out to just be a huge tourist attraction.
Brett found he has a fascination with graffiti, and asked to come along with us next time.

Sunday was not as bright and sunny as Saturday, and much colder, but for some reason Matt and I felt we should have a picnic. We went up to an abandoned ski area to scarf down the food, then got a few pictures of the old lifts. It was way too cold and walking up the slope was a bitch. But it was fun
No photos from that, left my camera at Matt's.

It was a really great weekend, and just the thing to get us out of our winter slump. 5 inches of snow on the ground right now but we're off to do some exploring

The tracks at the top were for ammunition for the guns to run through.

I'm surprised that those tunnels didn't lead to anything bigger though, Ruckman has a lot of big rooms buried in it.

Maybe past the flooding are the good rooms...

These forts are always on such scenic coastlines.
