Film Sets

Well I waited for one of the others from this month's user meet to post, but since that hasn't happened here it goes...

We were intending to go to a location very close to the restaurant but that fell through when there was active construction crews and a security vehicle, which was actually very fortunate considering the next place we accidentally stumbled on to was far far better.

It appears to be a warehouse will all kinds of old film sets, including Sitcom house rooms, a prison hallway, a courthouse, some kind of old garage, and industrial-type area (complete with styrofoam support beams that look very convincing), nice office boardrooms, an office type space that looks like The Daily Mail/The Daily Bugle, etc etc.

There were some other goodies including a script (!) with a cast call and everything. Truly an expansive place, but I'm an idiot and deleted half my photos when I was porting them over, so hopefully the others will post soon.

Wow! What a wicked opportunity, it's unfortunate that some of the photos were deleted during transfer but if you haven't formatted the card (and even if you have) there are ways to retrieve those photos with free programs. Just don't shoot on the same card or it overwrites the formatted ones.

I'm trying to work on that! Of all the ones I've checked they're secretly propriety software and either only scan or have some arbitrary limit of like 3MB of recovery. Any suggestions?

Recuva is definitely the best in terms of freeware programs.

But as usual, "free" because the installer will try and get you to agree to put in Ask Toolbar or some other such nonsense. Just make sure you watch for those options and un-check them.

I was going to suggest the same program, here's a link with a bit of a walk through if you find you are having trouble

I have access (nonlimited/limited) to a ton of film sites being part of the industry. It's super super common to use abandoned places and sometimes the main reason things haven't gotten demo'd yet.

The industry and location scouts know more places than anyone on here, I'm always impressed talking to them.

Thanks guys, this is the only I could recover fully, all the rest were corrupted. Recuva seems like a good program though, it's a shame there aren't more programmers in the world who are willing to create amazing programs to help people out without expecting anything in return.

The one that I know was filmed there is "the strain" but there are tons of other sets.

Good stuff.

I remember back when the Sydney guys checked out The Matrix train subway set.

They found Keanu's director chair & jacket.

Awesome set! Sounds like a pretty cool meet I missed out on! Really like the industrial areas of the set! Are those prop support pillars in any of your (recovered) shots?

This! So much this!

I had a 64GB card fail last year when the missus and I went to Florida and Disney. ZAR was able to recover 90% of the raw files for me with no issues.

And for the remaining 9.9%, it was able to recover enough of the RAW files that I could extract the JPEG preview out of them. That last 0.1% was salvageable.

I literally lost 3 photos out of 3000+ thanks to ZAR.

And, for the record, I now only shoot on 16GB cards so that I can't end up losing 3000+ photos to a fauly card again.

It's on the other side of the airport.
