This is place used to be in service back during the Cold War when the Nike missels on the West Coast were operational. Now it tends to serve as a meeting spot for kids who like to partake questionable activities. The tower is at the end of a pretty long service road if you walk. However many people have figured out that the gate at the front that prevents civilian cars from entering can be opened with a simple trick. Take a cookie sheet, or a flat metal object and place it on a magnet in the road on the other side of the gate, and it will open for anyone! Very cool area, there is a hole in the fence protecting the structure, a ladder going up the middle all the way to the top and another level near the top. The ladder is secure, however on the very top platform, there are large holes in the floor (they are supposed to be there, but idk why) that are easily over looked and can result in serious injury if one were to fall through one. Very nice view of the county, however be careful!!

The more years you spend here on uer.ca, the more you see that sites (like this one) are "re-discovered' over the years. But I wonder, are you trying to imply that this old AT&T or PacBell microwave relay station was linked to the Nike missile sites in the San Francisco area protection zone, including the old Nike IFC site back down the road a little ways? Other than telco microwave relay stations & Nike RADAR/IFC sites both normally being placed on high-ground to maximize line of sight coverage, it's just a coincidence that these two were close to each other.

Here a few pictures from my visit to the tower. Inside was a room that had running electricity and this machine. This was the only photo I took of the inside since I needed to leave my camera and backpack outside to be able to fit inside.

Hoolie is right this has nothing to do with the Nike program. That "machine" is a back up diesel generator. I am always surprised at how many UER members know so little about the world around them.

?? Were you referring to the "cookie sheet" or the wide open door? (I assumed the former). Stop getting your thong in a bunch already.

I apologize for posting on here, I just assumed that since this spot already had a thread created, I would just add on to it instead of creating another thread for the same location.

It is interesting that despite the apparent ease of entry & evidence of graffiti, the generator looks intact. Also looks to probably be the original one. If I remember right, that site has some pretty nice radio line of sight, so I'm kinda surprised no one seems to be re-using it. I guess Mt Tam is close-enough, with much greater coverage, power sources, security etc. /-/oolie
