Ugh. I was having the best day. Got a good night's sleep last night. Awesome mood all day at work. Radio's playing great music all day. I get my first check from my new job today, and even manage to get out of work about 15 minutes early. Super excited, gonna go to the bank, hit up guitar center and buy some much needed guitar stuff for what's gonna be our biggest show ever next weekend. Going to Indianapolis tomorrow for some urbex and partying. Fuck yeah this is gonna be awesome. Guitar center's across town, It was snowing really heavy and the roads were supposedly gonna be kinda bad, but they seemed totally fine. Get on the state route, and cruise about 45mph.

Then, not even a half mile down the road from work, this dickless asshole, not even looking, just whips his car out in front of me. I try to stop, but I get no traction, so I swerve into the snow covered parking lot to avoid hitting him. As soon as my tires touched snow it was over. I immediately lost control of the car and bounced over some rocks. I desperately tried to veer back left to the road, but the car just went straight into a phone pole direct center at 30. Douchebag just drives away into the sunset, doesn't even stop. No one does. At least 3 cars had to have seen the wreck. Gotta love courteous Ohio drivers.

I'm fairly certain the airbags failed. Immediately the car was filled with smoke coming from inside the dashboard and this burnt plastic/chemical smell, but no bags actually deployed. The car was wrecked by the previous owner in 2010. I'm assuming a bad repair job. Either way, they should have went off. Wtf.

I'm thankful though. Besides some chest pain from hitting the seatbelt, I've seemed to come out unscathed. I was only about 3 feet from slamming into a concrete wall. Totally could have been worse. As for the car, It's in pretty rough shape, although I'm honestly impressed with how well it held up. Luckily I have full coverage and a rental, but now I'm looking at a 1 car accident insurance claim with property damage, and no witnesses whatsoever, and I barely even got a look at the other car. A dark colored import sedan. Yeah that narrows it down. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. It was such an awesome day too. Now my poor little cockroach is sitting alone in a tow yard awaiting its fate.

please excuse the terrible cellphone shots. I was kinda bleh at the moment.

It's kinda funny. They moved these mailboxes from streetside because people were always running into them.

Glad you're ok!

Not that this will make you feel any better, but yesterday was a rough day for me too. I got off of work early as well, Queens of the stone age playing on SiriusXM, life was good. Light turns green, I can still see the hangar where I work in my mirrors, I barely start moving, car dies, dash lights up like a Christmas tree. I coast into a parking lot, car won't start, makes horrible sound of death. Got the car towed, cam timing chain broke (probably tensioner failure). My heart stopped. My beloved B7 2.0T A4 committed suicide. I looked at a 2013 Golf R the previous night, and I think my Audi got mad at me.

That truly sucks... I'm sorry to hear that- glad you're ok.

To add to the week of bad luck for cars, some dickless, methheaded bag of fuck trashed my black Beetle trying to break into it last weekend with a pickaxe. Passenger's door is ruined, the rear glass is gouged, the 1/4 panel is damaged and the C Pillar is smashed. He also smashed the back window out of Julie's Jetta wagon with a shovel, which he managed to hit the driver's door of my car with.

Oh, and he got my neighbour's Ford Escape with a baseball bat. The cops found him in the trunk of the Escape.

$2200 damage to my Bug (it's a write off but it's being fixed if I supply a few pieces myself) and the fucking lowlife got charged with mischief.

The worst part is, I found the piece of shit on Facebook and he's posting about how "He had a long night."

...He's lucky the cops found him and I didn't. He would not be posting on facebook.

I got stuck in my boss' driveway and got my bumper ripped off when he tried to pull me out, then I thought my water pump failed, so I replaced it and my belt just to discover a cut in my upper rad hose going to my T-stat housing. Water pump was fine, wasted 75 bucks plus coolant, belt, and an entire night working on it. Then today My boss got the semi stuck in the driveway to our shop blocking the drive. I shoveled out around it and in trying to get by slid into a bar on the semi causing a small dent and a scratch. I'm pretty sure my control arm bushings are shot as well.

I hate to hear yet another wreck you had to go through man. Sorry that shit keeps happening man

Also, I'd wait on the R till they cram that 3 liter twin turbo vr6 in it in the next couple of years.

I'll probably end up getting another car, but I have no idea what I want.

I don't want another A4. I could rock a GTI, but my boyfriend already drives a 2013 GTI, I'm not gonna buy the same car as him. R would be good, but it's 39 990$ and it has 8500km on it, and it's basically a GTI with AWD. 40K is what they sold brand new, so I can't really swallow paying the exact same for something with 8K on it.

Truthfully, I'm not sure if I want something else by VW (gasp). I was initially thinking of getting a Tiguan. Part of me wants to test drive a 2014 Focus ST, but I think I'll be disappointed (especially with a GTI already in the driveway).

I don't know what to do. Maybe you guys can smack some sense into me.

I don't know what to do.

you've already made up your mind.
you'll buy another VW.

you'll drive the Focus ST and like it (because it is a fast car and it does handle very well), but because you won't admit you like it because it's a lowly Ford, in the end, you will go back to VW and probably buy either a Jetta or a GTi.

I'd never buy a new Jetta. It's become a boring shitbox "a-la" Corolla.

I do like the ST though. I like the looks, it's got good numbers, it's rare, the Reacro's are super sexy, and it's relatively cheap to buy new. I want to like it.

What was it with this weekend?!?! I drove off the road Sunday and into a ditch. No damage, and was able to drive it out, but it was pretty scary.

Glad you're OK.

I slammed my other (2001) Beetle into a snow bank at 100 km/h during a rally this weekend as well.

All cosmetic, luckily. We were hauling ASS!!!! (Those aftermarket replacement bumper covers kinda explode when it's -23 out.)

It was the Maple Leaf Winter Rally- (aka the polar bear rally)- starts at 10PM, ends at 7am. It's what's considered a navigational rally, but the roads they've chosen and the speeds you're expected to maintain basically make it a full on rally race in street cars. Most fun you can have without a rollcage I would say.

It used a lot of roads from the Rally of the Tall Pines (a performance rally).

We covered about 450 km in total, and still did fairly well (heck, even finished!) even with our little mishap.

And today I scored a replacement bumper (also silver) plus headlights, fogs, the grille and turn signal lenses for $90. Can't complain.

I wanted some extra headlights because I have an idea I want to try.

For sure!!!

Equipment- snow tires are mandatory, and you need a tow strap as well as a reflective safety triangle. Auxiliary lighting is recommended (I just stuck some 130 watt high beam bulbs in the car and we were fine.)
It was $90 to register. And they even provided navigational instructions in miles for the one American team that participated this year.

There was a Pontiac Cobalt thing (Umm... G5... Pursuit?) running this year.

why?
i've gone to GM dealers and they've loaned me model specific tools before. WTF is with that? Audi/VW always struck me as brands that encourage their owners to take an interest in their products both as a drivers and in the service arenas. Or was i misled?
