Any experience with FJ-60s?
< on 2/6/2014 10:14 PM >
Posted on Forum: UER ForumQuote
Been looking for a "dedicated" trail and mountain exploring rig and have decided I want to look for an FJ-60.

Anyone have experience with them? Any particular years to stay away from?

Anyone have one laying around they want to sell cheap?

I'm jealous that buying one is even an option for you. Toyotas don't last long here, I've literally seen one of those in my life.

My dad had a silver one, he bought it from a doctor who purchased it new. It didn't last long with us because my mom couldn't drive it (no power steering).

Aside from rust issues, I think they're pretty much indestructible. I know the FJ40s will last about 7,000,000 miles if you keep them away from salt and heavy fog.

I believe the truck in Dante's peak was a Silverado.

I'm speaking of the mayors Toyota. Te one her kids drive up the mountain to get to grandmas house. The hero vehicle was a pretty sweet Suburban and the drive through lava was a late 80's Chevy crew cab.

She had an FJ, the doc had a Silverado.
(it actually wasn't a Silverado because back then, Silverado was an options package. W/T, Cheyenne and Scottsdale were other trim levels)

You're right.

The truck that had tires that were more lava resistant than the actual wheels.

Apparently everything under the truck was also made out of super rocks.

not the CJ's, Wranglers or Cherokee sports... I'm talking about the lame ass Compass, Commander, and all the other poser mobiles that have a Jeep emblem hung on them. They went from being a go-anywhere rugged beast to a punchline.
